Depot RV Park

Overview

Depot RV Park provides a quiet and welcoming base for travelers exploring the rugged beauty of Eastern Oregon. Situated on the grounds of a historic railway station, the park maintains a peaceful atmosphere that reflects the slow-paced charm of its small-town surroundings. It serves as a functional and scenic stop for those navigating the scenic byways of Grant County while offering a unique connection to the region's pioneering past.

Location & Surroundings

The park is located in the heart of Prairie City, positioned at the base of the majestic Strawberry Mountains. This location offers visitors stunning panoramic views and easy walking access to the local community's shops and cafes. Surrounded by the wide-open spaces of the John Day River Valley, the setting is characterized by its high-desert scenery and proximity to some of the most remote wilderness areas in the state.

Amenities & Park Features

Guests can expect well-maintained facilities that cater to various RV sizes. The park features full hookup sites equipped with 30 and 50-amp electricity, water, and sewer connections. Practical features include:

  • Convenient pull-through sites for easy arrivals and departures.
  • Clean restroom facilities with hot showers and on-site laundry services.
  • Reliable Wi-Fi access for staying connected in a rural environment.

The layout is organized to provide enough space for comfort while keeping the historic depot museum within easy reach of every campsite.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

There is no shortage of outdoor activities near the park. Visitors can explore the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness, which offers extensive trails for hiking and high-altitude lakes for fishing. History enthusiasts should visit the DeWitt Museum, located right on the property, to learn about the region's rail history. Additionally, the John Day River is a popular destination for fishing, and the nearby fossil beds provide a unique glimpse into the ancient past of the region.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for nature enthusiasts and history buffs who value a quiet, authentic experience over a high-traffic resort. It is a perfect fit for those using their RV as a base camp for backcountry exploration or for travelers who want to enjoy the hospitality of a small Oregon town. If you appreciate historic landmarks and easy access to mountain trails, this park will suit your travel style perfectly.

Just passing through and we were able to dump our tanks and fill the water tank. Very hospitable people and very cute area.

Quaint, perfect, relaxing. The town takes a lot of pride in their park. Beautiful grass with birds and trees. Walkable to the cute town with a nice small grocery store. Easy drive to hike at strawberry mountain. $40 for full hook up, well worth it! We will be back!

Perfect site for our 4-motorcycle group to tent camp overnight (June 2024) during a 5-day tour. Friendly host. Handy pavilion. Reasonable rate... except be sure you have 7 quarters for your shower. Yep, we'd stay there again.

Stayed here for work. Tried to make reservations got told to call a different number and he didn't think there was availability. Called the next number and was told they could accommodate us with no problem always have a few spots. Got here and the camp host told us we could not pay her and we would need to go to city hall. When we finally found city hall after driving around the little town they gave us a different amount and said to talk to the mayor. WOW that was a joke , most rudest professionals I have ever met.. He quoted yet a different price and then stated we would have to leave during there festival. WOW We come to help the community and was treated like dirt. We stayed for 3 weeks and not once did I see the dog doo doo bags trash emptied and were vary full. The camp host was very rude and only gave information if asked. If I could give it a 0 I would. Had to stay longer then I really wanted to for work.

Nice, clean and quiet RV park. Well maintained and payment is made through a drop box so checkin was super simple.
