Dixon's Coastal Maine Campground

Overview

Dixon's Coastal Maine Campground offers a quintessential New England experience for those seeking a wooded retreat near the Atlantic coast. Since 1972, this family-owned park has provided a quiet, welcoming atmosphere just minutes away from the bustling beaches of York and Ogunquit. It effectively balances a rustic camping feel with the convenience of modern facilities, making it a staple for seasonal visitors and coastal road trippers who want to experience the natural beauty of the Pine Tree State.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Cape Neddick, the park is tucked away from the main road while remaining highly accessible to the best of the Maine coastline. The terrain is characterized by lush pine forests and classic granite outcroppings, providing natural privacy and cooling shade for most campsites. Being located directly between the towns of York and Ogunquit allows travelers to easily explore both the rocky shoreline and the famous sandy shores that define this popular vacation region.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features a variety of sites, ranging from primitive tent spots to RV pads equipped with water and electric hookups. The facilities are designed to support a comfortable outdoor stay while maintaining a connection to nature. Key amenities include:

  • A heated in-ground swimming pool available for guest recreation during the summer months.
  • A well-stocked general store providing ice, firewood, and various camping essentials.
  • Clean bathhouses, modern restrooms, and on-site laundry facilities for guest convenience.

These features allow for a classic camping experience that caters to both families and solo travelers.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

A short drive from the campground leads to the iconic Nubble Lighthouse, one of the most photographed beacons in the country. Visitors can spend the day sunbathing at Ogunquit Beach or walking the scenic Marginal Way cliff path for stunning ocean views. For those interested in local culture, the nearby York's Wild Kingdom and various historic seafood shacks offer plenty of entertainment and authentic dining options just a few miles from the campground gate.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for nature-loving families who prefer a quieter, more traditional camping experience over high-density commercial RV resorts. It is a fantastic choice for coastal explorers who want a peaceful, central base camp for day trips to Southern Maine’s famous landmarks. If you appreciate shaded campsites and a relaxed pace of life beneath a canopy of pines rather than concrete pads, Dixon’s provides the perfect backdrop for your vacation.

Dixon's is a lovely family campground in the best tradition, offering camping, swimming and activities throughout the season. We were very happy to perform and book music for the summer series over the past two years and look forward to doing it again in '26!

1st off look at how many reviews I've written. We chose Dixon's because of the price. You get what you pay for. Every other day we got an email from them saying they will take out balance due at 10am on the morning of our check in. Even though check in wasn't until 12 noon. 6 emails in total. When we arrived we pulled into their office parking space. It was barely big enough for our 30 ft motorhome pulling a Jeep. After we went in and checked in at the office, we then had to disconnect the Jeep pull back out onto the road turn around and pull back in to face into their entry gate. Not one email mentioned that. One of the employees guided us to our campsite in his golf court. I was following their 5 mph speed limit in the park and cannot keep up with him. He then was guiding me back into the site and I stopped and he said then I'll keep going and I said no. Explain them I didn't want to hit the branches up at the top of the wreck. He said don't worry about those they're very soft branches. I said I am worried about them and I'm not backing up the rig into the ranches. He said well then you can do whatever you want I said well then let me move to this other site and camp there is what you can't do that. I said also I can't do what I want. I said well then I'm leaving the motorhome where it is, and I hope the people next to us can get into their spot. He said oh you have people drive over that rock without any issue all the time. I said yeah I can see the scratch marks in the rock from people dragging the bottoms of their campers across them. He said oh well that's just part of the details. Nothing to worry about. Terrible customer service. We will never be staying here again.

This was my great Grandmother's campground. Haven't been in years but glad to see that from the reviews the new owners are keeping it kept up and just like grandma Dixon had it.

Our experience here was wonderful. The staff were very nice and helpful. Our campsite was a little small but plenty of room for 2 small tents and our van. We had one of the better campsites that wasn't as close to others. However, all the guests here were quiet, nice, respectful, calm, making for a perfect stay. Most guests seemed to be nice families. They have entrance and exit gates, and a key card is required to enter. The bathroom facilities were the best I've ever seen/used. They seem to be new and were very well maintained. The campground is a short 5 or 10-minute drive to the beaches, so it is just far enough away to be scenic and close enough to have a fun vacation. I highly recommend Dixon's!

Great campground. We tent here a couple nights each summer and love it. Good bathrooms and showers available and a well run and clean grounds. Pool is a good option but we normally head to ogunquit for the day. Gated entry and extremely nice and helpful staff
