Dos Picos (San Diego County Park)
Overview
Dos Picos Regional Park offers a serene escape into the rugged beauty of San Diego County’s inland valleys. Named for the two prominent peaks visible from the park, this destination is characterized by its ancient coast live oak groves that provide ample shade for campers. It feels worlds away from the coastal hustle, offering a quiet environment where the rustle of leaves and birdsong dominate the atmosphere. It is a well-maintained county facility that balances natural preservation with essential modern comforts for RV travelers seeking a peaceful retreat.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the community of Ramona, California, the park is nestled within a landscape of rolling hills and boulder-strewn ridges. The elevation provides a slightly cooler climate than the low-lying desert while remaining drier and sunnier than the coast. The park is surrounded by private ranches and open space, ensuring that your stay remains quiet and secluded. Its position in the Valley of the Sun makes it a perfect gateway to both the rugged mountains and the diverse Southern California backcountry.
Amenities & Park Features
RVers will find a range of site options, including many equipped with full or partial hookups to accommodate different rig sizes and power needs. The park features a seasonal pond often stocked for fishing, providing a relaxing spot for an afternoon by the water. Clean restrooms, hot showers, and a convenient dump station are available for all guests. For those traveling with children, the park offers a modern playground and horseshoe pits, ensuring there is plenty of recreation available right within the campground loop.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure seekers are just a short drive from the famous Potato Chip Rock at Mount Woodson, one of the most photographed hiking spots in the region. The Ramona Valley is also a burgeoning wine region, with dozens of local tasting rooms and vineyards nearby. For a change of pace, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is within easy reach, as is the historic mountain town of Julian. The park itself features several scenic nature trails that are perfect for morning walks and bird watching.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for travelers who prefer a rustic, nature-focused experience over a commercial resort atmosphere. Families will appreciate the safe, open spaces and the opportunity for children to explore the outdoors in a controlled environment. It is also a fantastic home base for hiking enthusiasts and wine lovers looking to explore the hidden gems of inland San Diego. If you value quiet nights under a canopy of oaks and a slower pace of life, Dos Picos is an excellent choice.

Love this campground! Quiet, trees, breezes, hookups, nice restrooms, picnic lunch by the pond, trails, views, stargazing, has it all.

We were just at the lovely Dos Picos County Park for a wedding. In addition, there were a large number of us who stayed in the campground for several nights. We have nothing but kind things to say about the wedding venue, the campground, and the park rangers and employees. The employees were outstanding, polite, and professional (even when they were reminding us of the enforced quiet hour 🙂). They took care of all the details for the wedding venue and ceremony. In addition, the restrooms and showers were clean and well stocked. The campground was clean, and quiet hour and fire time deadlines enforced. The scenery is beautiful, and the campsites were large enough for our tents, camping equipment and vehicle(s). What a delight to come from out of state, and enjoy a lovely weekend of celebration and camping in this lovely campground! I hope that I get the chance to come back and camp again.

Nice quiet park! Great spaces with lots of shade and some grass. Strong water pressure at the site, but shower house was closed. Fun trails going out of the park. We liked how it was close enough to San Diego to visit stuff, but like a state park type retreat in the mountains! We will definitely be back for a longer stay next year. Not fussy about number of dogs as long as you are respectful with them.

I love Dos Picos and have been camping here for over 50 years. The park and campground are the cleanest you will find in the County and the staff are friendly and helpful, and though there are rules, nobody is standing over you to enforce them. The sites aren't the biggest, but the whole place has an umbrella of trees over it. There is really a sense of privacy and the layout is good, whether you want to be alone, or are camping with a group. It's nice feeling like you are way out in the country, yet knowing if you do need something, it's just a few minutes drive to town. And, as of Nov 2025, firewood is still just $6 a bundle at the campground! There is a lake for fishing, hiking trails, and a nice park and playground and ultra clean, we'll stocked restrooms. Give Dos Picos a try and you'll come back again and again.

The campground is clean and fellow campers were extremely nice! My only wish would be for full hook ups. They do have a dump station on site. There is marked hiking trails, a playground that is a five minute walk, and a fishing pond. This was our second time camping here and we will be back.
