This provincial park destination is known for its well-treed sites and tranquil atmosphere, providing a true escape from the bustle of city life. Whether you are arriving for a weekend getaway or an extended mountain stay, the crisp air and towering evergreens create an immediate sense of peace. The park emphasizes a back-to-basics lifestyle, making it a favorite for those who value nature over high-tech amenities.
Location & Surroundings
Situated a short drive from Turner Valley, Alberta, the campground is surrounded by the dense forests and rugged peaks of the Highwood River valley. Travelers will appreciate the proximity to the river, which offers calming sounds and picturesque views from several vantage points. The area is characterized by lodgepole pine and spruce trees, providing ample shade and privacy between campsites. The drive to the park is part of the experience, featuring rolling foothills that transition into dramatic limestone cliffs as you enter the mountains.
Amenities & Park Features
As a rustic provincial site, the amenities focus on providing essential comforts for self-contained RVs and campers. Guests have access to vault toilets and hand-pumped water stations throughout the grounds. Each site is equipped with a heavy-duty fire ring and a sturdy picnic table for outdoor dining. While there are no power or water hookups, the park provides a firewood sales service to ensure your evenings are spent comfortably around a crackling campfire under the starry Alberta sky.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw for visitors is the extensive trail system, including the popular Eau Claire Pipe Trail, an easy interpretive walk perfect for families. Anglers often frequent the nearby river for trout fishing, while more adventurous hikers can find challenging mountain peaks just a short drive away. The nearby town of Turner Valley offers charming local shops and the historic gas plant for those looking to mix nature with local culture, history, and small-town hospitality.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is best suited for dry campers and outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy a primitive camping style. It is an excellent choice for families looking to introduce their children to the wilderness or couples seeking a quiet mountain retreat. Because the sites can accommodate various rig sizes but offer no hookups, it is perfect for those with solar-equipped RVs or smaller trailers who want to immerse themselves fully in the rugged Alberta wilderness.

Favourite place to stay in Kananaskis. Lots of sites to fit our 5th wheel. No sani dump but it had a manual Well Pump for potable water. Quiet, clean, private sites. Little bit of cell service. Hiking trails and the cost was $31 a night.

This year, they have new camp ground managers. The couple, Rhonda and Steven, and their daughters are awesome and sweet. Very kind people. Love the location. Definitely recommend camping here. There is a small playground for kids by the managers' RV near the entrance. The outhouse is easy access and there's a picnic table at the camp site. First come first serve. We brought our puppy camping for the first time (and for me as well). We had a great time.

I have been camping with my family at Eau Claire for a number of years, it is our favourite place to camp. Eau Claire is a great place to camp, well treed sites for the most part provide a feeling of seclusion even when the campground is full. The hosts are exceptional people they are friendly, approachable and knowledgeable about the area, and any safety and campground information that campers in bear country need to know.
