I stayed here for the night. We did primitive camping, which costs $15/night. We stayed right on the beach. It was was quiet and peaceful and beautiful. I’d definitely stay there again. They also had full hookup camping, I think the price was $35/night, but I’m not 100% sure.

Water level is low but we were able to paddle board and enjoy the afternoon. You are able to borrow a life jacket for the day at the entrance. 10.00 fee if you are not a N.M resident

Very unique state park on a reservoir. Nice park, clean bathrooms, just not the type of environment we enjoy. Very little trees, lots of wind in the afternoon, hot in May. Cute small towns near by. Sites are pretty big. If you like very dry weather and environments, you will like this campground. Very peaceful.

Elephant Butte is surrounded by picturesque views of mountains. Multiple inlets offer exploration on and off land. Unfortunately, the water continues to recede but still allows for boating activities.

My partner, pups and I came to Elephant Butte lake with our airstream to camp by the water. We did get our truck and trailer stuck down in the sand by the water, but there are a couple folks with big hauling trucks that made rounds to assist those who got stuck. We were there for the Pink Full Moon. We stayed on the Rattlesnake Peninsula. Careful bringing your dogs to certain spots, as there are little burs and prickers around. The water was nice to swim in, although a little chilly. Will be back again next year, hopefully with some kayaks. ^.^ i think it cost $10 a day, but you have to handle yourself, since many park Rangers seem to be missing or understaffed.

Was not expecting just how huge this lake was, the sand caught me off guard and really added to the feel of a beach more so a lake. Great to paddle board , star glaze , or just enjoy the sound of the water. 10/10 would recommend. Just be careful if you don’t have a 4x4 , you must follow the hard paths , otherwise risk getting stuck in more deeper or softer sand!

Went here end of February., nice weather, not much fish., plenty of bites but really recommend a boat. Other than that we had a good time.

A lake oasis in the middle of the desert? Yes- and the beauty of this place is hard to describe. I walked along the shoreline and was glad I got to see different parts of the lake because it has very different views depending on where you are. Make sure to bring a lawn chair or blanket and maybe a picnic because you are going to want to stay a while and soak it all in. Entry was $10 for out of state and well worth it.
