Very disappointed. We drove in from Nogal, NM not really having a plan. We were excited to find this gorgeous campground late into the night. The views are amazing. Location is perfect in conjunction with town and supplies. The bathrooms are clean for being port a potties. Everything was perfect minus the hosts. Awful experience, we almost left and headed back for a hotel in Red River. The website said first come first serve, so we were shocked to arrive to reserved sites. Luckily, the people before us left early on the site we found. The host met us at our site and explained the campground rules then asked for payment. We needed to run back into red river to get more cash. We asked how long she was going to be up. The host did not give a time frame. She clearly stated, “I have a large fire going and it will be going for a while!” She also told us to unload some stuff before we go into town because people “like us” will come in the night and steal our spot if we don’t claim it. In other words, she is not going to save our spot for us. So we did. We unloaded and fed our two puppies. I went to the restroom and my boyfriend unloaded some stuff. We were just about to unclog our little ones from the line and a truck came aggressively pulling into our site. In the pitch black dark, door opens, and a man’s voice rumbles, “Do we have a problem here?” He gets louder and closer saying, “You don’t wanna pay me my money then get the hell outta here!” I was pretty startled, confused, and flat out appalled. Especially for a woman with PTSD. You shouldn’t roll up on people aggressively in the dark in the woods. I WILL NOT be staying here again. It turns out, his wife (the host) can’t get her stories straight. She painted us a very relaxed take your time picture, while simultaneously riling up her husband. Either way, personal problems or not, I’m shocked I even gave those people my money and stayed here. I would not have if it would have been earlier in the day and this was a more planned trip.

Very nice campground. Loved our campsite and the bathrooms were pretty clean. We also had some great mountain views from the campsite. The camp host was very nice and welcoming. The campground is dog friendly as long as it stays on a leash or cord. It was pretty quiet when we went. I totally recommend.

Here I found a meticulous campground that felt safe. Short hikes afford beautiful views with flat surfaces perfect for spiritual practice and connecting with nature. Sherri and her husband are gracious hosts!

Beautiful area. It is conveniently located just about 2.5 miles west of Red River. Many of the sites are first come-first served so get there early if you are going on a weekend. I just so happened to grab the last available site when I got there. It would get five stars, but I am more accustomed to more remote camping. You will here vehicle/road noise from passing vehicles on Highway 38.

Loved the camp ground!! Better and cheaper than paying for a hotel room!! Clean bathrooms, you can buy fire wood with the host and great night skies

Great campsite in Red River, NM. The camp hosts were excellent. The vault toilets are clean in great shape. It is close enough to town to easily access all the outdoor activities of Red River, but still far enough away to feel like a true campsite. Recommend most sites. The best campsites, in my opinion, 6, 18, 17 (by the meadow), 16, 15.

Wonderful respite from everything going on right now. Great Camp Hosts, beautiful scenery, lots of fresh air. Only a short drive from town as well. There's fishing near by and on sight facilities. Wish I could have stayed longer! Just don't let the critters get your food...
