Overview
Findley State Park offers a serene escape into the lush forests of Northeast Ohio. Originally a state forest, this 838-acre park was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps and now serves as a premier destination for those seeking a natural retreat. The park is centered around a peaceful lake, providing a picturesque backdrop for campers who appreciate densely wooded sites and a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. It is particularly famous for its spectacular display of spring wildflowers and vibrant autumn foliage that draws nature photographers from across the state.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just south of Wellington, Ohio, the park is easily accessible yet feels deeply secluded from the hustle of urban life. The surrounding landscape is characterized by stately pines and hardwoods, creating a thick canopy that keeps the campground cool and private during the summer months. Its location in Lorain County makes it a convenient home base for travelers exploring the rolling farmland of North Central Ohio while remaining within a short drive of the historic charm found in the local village center.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground provides a mix of electric and non-electric sites catering to various RV sizes and camping styles. Modern facilities ensure a comfortable stay for all visitors throughout the season:
- Heated showers and flush toilets located in clean, well-maintained bathhouses.
- A 93-acre lake featuring a sandy swimming beach and seasonal watercraft rentals.
- An 18-hole professional-level disc golf course and multiple picnic shelters.
For those who enjoy staying active, the park also maintains miles of trails specifically designed for hiking and mountain biking through diverse terrain.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the park boundaries, visitors can explore the Wellington Historic District, known for its stunning 19th-century architecture and the Spirit of '76 Museum. During late August, the Lorain County Fairgrounds host one of the state's largest county fairs just minutes away from the park entrance. For a change of scenery, the shores of Lake Erie are within a 40-minute drive, offering world-class fishing, additional boating opportunities, and lakeside dining experiences.
Who This Park Is Best For

New pics posted (11/2/25) from October. Based on many of the Ohio State parks, I have visited thus far. This one is huge. There are many trailer hook up spots, an area for tent, camping, or non-electric, but my post usually are based on the trails.. there are several trails throughout the park, including a story book trail for children, which is a little under a mile loop. A couple of the trails coincide with the frisbee golf trail so if you’re not paying attention, you can go in the wrong direction. I was even monitoring through all trails app, and I still went the wrong direction. The trails are clear, at least two person wide with some elevation changes lots of wildlife and very scenic.

Site 248 was nice. Close to bike trails and boat launch. Full hook ups and a perfectly level (new) concrete pad. Will go back and spend some more time for sure.

This is one of the smaller state parks, but it has much to offer. There is a small beach, mountain biking trails, hiking trails (The Buckeye Trail passes through the park),kayaking, boat ramps, disc golf, campground, picnic areas and shelter house. Also the lake and surrounding areas are very scenic.
