Flambeau River/Connors Lake
Overview
Connors Lake Campground is a quintessential Northwoods destination tucked inside the expansive Flambeau River State Forest near Winter, Wisconsin. This location offers a deep immersion into nature, trading modern distractions for the rustle of old-growth hemlocks and the lap of water against the shore. It serves as a peaceful base for those looking to explore one of the Midwest's most legendary river systems and pristine forest landscapes.
Location & Surroundings
Situated along the eastern shore of its namesake lake, the park is surrounded by a lush canopy of towering hardwoods and pines. The surrounding state forest encompasses over 90,000 acres of protected wilderness, providing a sense of isolation that is increasingly rare. Visitors will find themselves perfectly positioned to access the Flambeau River, famous for its high water quality and diverse wildlife, including bald eagles and black bears.
Amenities & Park Features
As a rustic facility, this park emphasizes a primitive experience. There are no electrical hookups, making it ideal for self-contained RVs or those who enjoy boondocking. Park features include:
- Well-maintained vault toilets and hand-pumped water stations.
- A paved boat landing for easy access to Connors Lake.
- A designated swimming beach and picnic area for daytime relaxation.
Each individual site provides a fire ring and a picnic table for quiet evenings under the forest canopy.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors to this region. Anglers frequent the lake for musky, walleye, and panfish, while paddlers often head to the nearby river for world-class canoeing and kayaking. Hiking enthusiasts should not miss the trails leading to Little Falls and Slough Gundy, where the river rushes over dramatic rock formations. The area also offers access to multi-use trails suitable for mountain biking and wildlife photography.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is best suited for adventurous RVers who prefer a quiet, natural atmosphere over resort-style amenities. It is a haven for paddlers and anglers seeking direct access to high-quality water systems. Because the sites are unpowered and integrated into the natural forest, it is ideal for van lifers or small-to-mid-sized trailers. Travelers looking to unplug and reconnect with the wild heart of Wisconsin will find this destination perfect.

Would have been awesome minus the loud neighbors, generators, campers leaving bright lights on all night, and fireworks (labor day weekend). Water was a bit brown. Showers at the headquarters (3 or so miles) away were free and really nice. Lots of trails and forrest roads in the area.

Nice and quiet campground. Sites 1-4 are farther away and more secluded from the other sites. We were on site 1. It could fit two 10- person tents & still have lots of room. Mosquitos were really bad. Drenched in repellent and still didn't help. Beach area by campground not that great, but there's a beach area about 6 mins away, same lake and better beach.

Beautiful campground but arriving on a Sunday afternoon we thought we could find a spot for the night or maybe two. There is no cell service for miles and host said we had to drive another 4-5 miles to park office, (Which isn't open) to use the "yellow" phone even find out if there was a vacancy. We did get a spit for one night after paying for non Wisc. resident fee plus a one day car pass. Love Wisconsin camping but will stay away from state campgrounds from now on.

Worked well for me car camping. Nearby to hiking, river trips, fishing. Maybe rustic for some but just what I needed

The campground was very clean. Enjoyed it very much. The only thing was a young couple from MN would not keep their two dogs under control and on a leash. They were right beside our camp and we could hear both of their dogs fighting at all hours of the day and night. One of the dogs even came onto our campsite. Otherwise we had a lot of fun.
