General Clinton Park
Overview
General Clinton Park serves as a centerpiece for community life and outdoor recreation in the Susquehanna Valley. Spanning over 40 acres of lush grounds, this park is perhaps best known as the finish line for the historic General Clinton Canoe Regatta. It offers a blend of open spaces and riverside views, making it a peaceful stop for travelers looking to experience the rural beauty of Upstate New York. Unlike high-end resorts, the park maintains a relaxed, municipal atmosphere that prioritizes nature and community events.
Location & Surroundings
Situated directly along the banks of the Susquehanna River in the town of Bainbridge, the park provides a scenic backdrop of rolling hills and flowing water. The surrounding area is characterized by quiet country roads and small-town charm. Its proximity to Interstate 88 makes it an accessible jumping-off point for those traveling through the Southern Tier or heading toward the Catskill Mountains. The environment is quiet, allowing guests to enjoy the sounds of the river and local wildlife.
Amenities & Park Features
The facility caters to RVers with a selection of water and electric hookups, though many sites remain primitive to preserve the natural landscape. On-site features include:
- A convenient dump station for transit travelers
- Spacious picnic pavilions for group gatherings
- Clean restroom facilities and seasonal showers
- Expansive athletic fields and a playground for children
The layout is open and spacious, easily accommodating larger rigs that prefer a less cramped environment than traditional commercial campgrounds.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do, from fishing in the river to exploring the nearby Oquaga Creek State Park, which offers additional hiking and swimming. A short drive north leads to the famous village of Cooperstown, home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Local visitors often enjoy the quaint shops and diners in downtown Bainbridge or take a scenic drive through the surrounding farmland to visit local orchards and farm stands during the harvest season.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal match for travelers who value tranquility and open space over luxury resort amenities. It is a fantastic choice for canoeists, anglers, and families who enjoy self-contained camping in a scenic, park-like setting. Those attending local festivals or looking for a convenient overnight stop while traveling through New York will appreciate the easy access and quiet nights. It appeals most to RVers who enjoy a back-to-basics approach while remaining close to regional attractions.

Nice trail. There's a small park for the kiddos, disc golf and park for campers. Also, nice access to the river.

I loved walking around the trail they have. The park was clean and the kids had fun. It was a good way to get them out the house to burn some energy. The park was also clean. There was no trash anywhere. I would recommend this park for daily walks or to bring kids to play.
