Gifford Pinchot/North Fork

Overview

The North Fork Campground within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest offers a quintessential Pacific Northwest experience for travelers seeking a deep connection with nature. Located near the banks of the Cispus River, this destination provides a serene escape from the bustle of modern life. It is a primitive forest setting that prioritizes the preservation of the natural landscape, making it a premier choice for RVers who value tranquility and solitude over the high-density environment of private resorts.

Location & Surroundings

Situated south of Randle, WA, the park is nestled deep within a lush old-growth forest canopy. The surrounding environment is dominated by towering Douglas firs, cedars, and western hemlocks, which provide significant privacy and natural shade for most campsites. The nearby North Fork Cispus River provides a constant, soothing soundtrack of rushing water, while the proximity to the jagged peaks of the Cascade Range offers a dramatic backdrop for your morning coffee.

Amenities & Park Features

As a traditional Forest Service site, the amenities at North Fork are designed to be functional and low-impact. Visitors will find vault toilets and access to potable water via hand pumps located conveniently throughout the loops. Each individual site features a sturdy picnic table and a designated fire ring for evening gatherings. While there are no electrical, water, or sewer hookups available, many of the sites are leveled and spacious enough to accommodate mid-sized RVs and trailers for a comfortable dry-camping stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The area serves as an exceptional basecamp for exploring the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, located just a short drive away. Hikers can access an extensive network of trails ranging from easy forest walks to challenging climbs with panoramic views. The river itself is a popular spot for fishing and wading, particularly during the warmer summer months. Additionally, the region is well-known for seasonal huckleberry picking, which draws visitors from all over the state to these fertile forest floors.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who enjoy a boondocking lifestyle and do not require constant digital connectivity. It is a perfect match for those who enjoy primitive camping and want to spend their days exploring the wilderness rather than staying inside a park. If you are looking for a secluded retreat where the primary entertainment is the sound of the wind through the trees and the river below, North Fork is the destination for you.

We had the pleasure of meeting the camphost lead while staying in north fork, Willow was not only kind and helpful, but extremely knowledgeable about Gifford Pinchot national forest and where to go see some of the most beautiful views of our lives. We hope to see her in the forest in future years and get more info about our beautiful Gifford!

This place is quiet and beautiful! If you’re looking for peace and nature , this is the spot! No cell service (just how I like it) and our spot was close to the bathroom but not to close! No showers, they have vault toilets. Really nice staff, they kept the place clean

The camp hosts are so nice this year 7/2021! The sites are neat as a pin. The vault toilets are sparkling. I wasn’t thrilled with my site that recreation.gov assigned me. I was able to drive around and choose one of the available sites and make a swap. Pretty location. On a paved road the whole way from Randle.
