Greers Ferry Lake is a 40,000-acre lake located in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in Cleburne and Van Buren counties in Arkansas. It was created in 1962 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Greers Ferry Dam project, which was named after the late President John F. Kennedy. The lake is located near the town of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and is a popular destination for fishing, boating, swimming, and other recreational activities. The lake is also home to several marinas, campgrounds, and resorts.

Stay at John F. Kennedy Campground in Heber Springs, AR. Enjoy scenic lakefront camping with electric hookups, boating access, and great fishing.

John F. Kennedy Campground, Heber Springs, AR

7-10th May of 2026, we had reservations for site C08,and stayed the weekend of Mother's day. While the site is a wonderful site to camp at, and great amenities, we did experience a problem.
The people next to us in C07 left early from their site and went back to Conway because their Doggo became bad ill.
Our Doggo didn't get ill while there but did so upon returning home to Diarrea, throwing up, wouldn't eat, hard to drink,and she was like this for about 36 hours. We had an appointment with Vet. but she came out of it on 3rd day.
I, on the other hand,  found a tick on me that Saturday and did the appropriate steps in removal and cleansing thinking nothing about what was to come from it.
Fast forward to 2nd week of June 2026 and having a beef heavy week the one prior, I woke up on Tuesday Morning covered in Hives. Went to VA urgent care and they did blood work testing  for ALPHA-GAL Syndrome related to the Lone Star Tick.
We just got the results back this week and YES, It is confirmed that I have ALPHA-GAL. This means I am now allergic to any kind of Beef, Goat, Bison, Lamb, Pork, and products from those species.
I am putting our story in my review in order to make other's planning on visiting JFK RV Park and campground, aware of the risk of Lone Star ticks and the possibility that they are using poisons that can affect the health of your Four Legged Family members.
Because of this experience we have decided not to return to the park.
This in no way takes away from the beauty of the area, the park itself and the hosts. Your experience may be far different than ours. Thank you for taking the time to read this and be sure to use tick repellant.

The only camp ground wirh outside AC all year long just find a spot near the river bank.

Beautiful spot down by the river.  So peaceful and fun

My aunt and uncle were camping here so we went for a day visit. It was beautiful. Bathrooms were clean and easy to access for my mom who uses a walker. Definitely will be back for a longer stay.

Cool, and relaxing. Alot of shade. Trails to walk. Good sizing camp plots.

Didn't camp here this time, but plan on coming back. We got the day use pass and did some fishing.
The campgrounds look great, lots of shade in those hot summer months. Even then the air off the river is like an AC.
Access to the river is pretty good when its not covered up with anglers.
The lady at the entrance booth is very sweet.
Nice views of the river.
We will be back for some camping and fishing.

Site C6 at JFK was very nice. Collins Creek runs right behind the site, so we could hear the babbling  brook all weekend.  Clean restrooms, easy Red River access for fishing. Each site has a large trash can. Water & electric hooks ups, dump station on site.

It's nice there. They are asking 5 dollars for day use now. You are going to this place to bring your fishing poll. It's clean, and most sites are pretty big. Part of the park dont have water. There is an electric and dump station.
2 years later, it is still the same. No new improvements, but still nice.

We have stayed here several times on our Arkansas travels and it’s a great quiet campground along the tail waters of Greers Ferry Lake , Little Red River , lots of great fishing opportunities when the water levels are right to catch a lot of trout . Hatchery is also within the park and a nice place to visit . Eagles are regular visitors of the river so keep a look out .
Facilities are clean and sites are as to be expected from a COE facility .

Family camping trip in a 21-ft. Camper. We had a nice, relaxing time. The campground is very nice, well-kept, with several hiking trails, a playground, and good fishing. JFK is one of our favorite spots. The little red river flows right beside it. It's ice cold, but so clear and pretty.

Absolutely beautiful place great fishing I love visiting here when I come to town from Texas every Thanksgiving

This is a great state park for RV camping or tent camping. It's right along the river, with a handful of fishers enjoying it! The trail within this campground is also a great hike for the family with water to enjoy in the creek that runs with the path. It seemed to us like the campsites were added on with time. Campsite C has a shower building and Campsite D has a shower building. We stayed in Campsite A and had to drive to the showers - so you may want to select those campsites to be within walking distance!
