Spanning over 100 acres of diverse natural landscape, this San Diego County park serves as a lush retreat for RVers looking for a blend of wetland habitats and woodland beauty. It is widely recognized for its peaceful atmosphere and historical significance, providing a quiet base for exploring the North County region.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled just a few miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, the park is situated near the San Luis Rey River. The surroundings are a mix of residential neighborhoods and protected open spaces, creating a hidden oasis feel. Travelers will appreciate the proximity to Highway 76, which makes navigating to the coast or inland attractions straightforward. The park’s geography features tranquil ponds and willow-shaded groves, offering a distinct microclimate that often feels cooler and more secluded than the nearby urban corridors.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground at Guajome is equipped with 33 sites that offer partial hookups, specifically water and electricity, along with a convenient dump station on-site. Visitors have access to clean restrooms and hot showers, making longer stays more comfortable. For recreation, the park boasts over four miles of multi-use trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Two scenic ponds provide opportunities for catch-and-release fishing, while families can enjoy multiple playgrounds and organized picnic pavilions scattered throughout the grounds.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The park’s location in Oceanside puts guests minutes away from the historic Mission San Luis Rey, known as the King of the Missions. A short drive west leads to the iconic Oceanside Pier and wide sandy beaches perfect for surfing or sunbathing. For those traveling with children, LEGOLAND California is easily accessible, while the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is located further inland. Nature enthusiasts can spend their days birdwatching in the park or cycling the nearby San Luis Rey River Trail, which connects directly to the coast.

Many things to do here. Trails to explore. Many people ride their bikes. Motorized bikes not allowed. There’s an upper pond and a lower lake and a marsh, and a few bridges make the journey fun. There’s camping —-no tent camping —but trailer camping. Playgrounds are well kept and safe. Have to pay to park. Many trees are deliberately not trimmed in the name of conservation? Stay away during fire season.

I’m so sad, I spent years here with my children enjoying the park. I came a few times and and had a great time enjoying the park, only yesterday I couldn’t get a reservation online so I called and paid over the phone. The person who took my reservation did not write the correct email and I never received any confirmation. I hooked up and left to get supplies and when I returned the gate was locked so I looked for my email and nothing, so I called and no answer, I left a message marked urgent! But nothing so I drove home disappointed. I emailed and called again and they said just leave, we have another person coming. I feel so hurt, and disappointed. I emailed in hopes of staying another night and putting this behind me with communication and an apology for yesterday but they said just leave? Unbelievable the entire situation is unbelievable! So sad yesterday no one was anywhere, today they were out and about, but still no paperwork on my windshield as if I was so neglected. I disappointed in the staff there. I found sheet metal screws on the ground again? Odd? When driving away the guy was angry because I said something about everything.

Just a staple here is the city. Perfect for walking, running or cycling. Plenty of space to play ball, two playgrounds for the little ones and plenty of picnic areas.

Such a beautiful and relaxing spot to spend time in nature! The peaceful trails are perfect for a morning walk or afternoon hike, and the variety of birds makes it a birdwatcher’s paradise. Beautiful scenery, lots of trails and paths, and plenty of nature to enjoy. Highly recommend for a relaxing outdoor escape.

Awesome park with lots to do. Playground for the kids, BBQ pits for the grill daddys, lake front trail for the bikers and runners, and even a small RV camping lot. My group decided to BBQ, olay horseshoes, and volleyball today. Awesome spot for outdoor fun of all kinds.
