Overview
Beaver Pond Campground is a serene destination located within the sprawling boundaries of Harriman State Park. Situated in Stony Point, NY, this campground offers a primitive, woodsy experience that contrasts sharply with the nearby bustle of New York City. It is a place where RVers can truly disconnect and enjoy the rhythmic sounds of nature, surrounded by over 47,000 acres of protected wildlands, pristine lakes, and scenic vistas that define the lower Hudson Valley region.
Location & Surroundings
Nestled deep within the Hudson Highlands, the park sits on a rocky plateau overlooking the glistening waters of Lake Welch. The surrounding terrain is characterized by dense hardwood forests, rolling hills, and a massive network of interconnected hiking trails. Its location in Stony Point makes it an accessible getaway for those traveling through the Mid-Atlantic region, providing a cool, shaded retreat during the humid summer months where the dense forest canopy provides ample privacy.
Amenities & Park Features
The facility focuses on a traditional, back-to-basics camping experience rather than resort-style luxuries. RVers will find wooded sites equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, though it is important to note the lack of water or electric hookups at individual sites. Essential services include:
- Modern comfort stations featuring hot showers and flush toilets.
- A centralized dump station and accessible laundry facilities.
- A supervised swimming beach at nearby Lake Welch for summer recreation.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts have direct access to over 200 miles of trails, including the famous Appalachian Trail and the Long Path, which offer varying levels of difficulty. Just a short drive away, visitors can explore Bear Mountain State Park, which features a trailside zoo and stunning panoramic views from Perkins Memorial Drive. For those seeking a change of pace, the historic grounds of West Point and the extensive shopping at Woodbury Common are within easy reach.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for self-contained RVers who prioritize natural beauty and tranquility over modern conveniences like high-speed Wi-Fi. It is a fantastic choice for nature lovers and families who want to immerse themselves in the outdoors through hiking and lake activities. If you prefer a quiet, rustic atmosphere where the primary evening entertainment is a crackling campfire, Beaver Pond at Harriman State Park is the perfect fit for your travel style.

Recommend W16 or W14 if you are looking for more privacy. Shower room is good and clean, they offer 24/7 hot water. The office opens until 9pm and sells woods which is convenient.

When we first got here, we can already smell the burning, and it’s constantly burning from all campsites. These campsites are extremely close to each other, I felt like I was in a community park. It’s silent time after 10pm. But I. The early morning like 6am you can hear the music played loud, people in the mic speaking loud. Also, the burning started from again. Day by day, you just can’t get to smell fresh air. Very bad.

Great facilities with nice raised platforms for tents and relatively clean bathrooms and showers. Staff is friendly, but unfortunately not very effective at enforcing their own rules. Lots of partying campers with loud music that kinda ruin the experience for everyone. Quiet hours are not enforced, but even if the staff speaks to a camper, the second they leave the musics and noise is back on. If you are looking to camp with a large group of people then its not bad, just not a place where you can relax and unwind in nature.

Been coming here for years but after this weekend, we wont be coming back. Its gotten worse and worse the last few times. This weekend we had the loudest group next to us. Dirty music all day and extremely loud talking until midnight. We have 3 small children. The campers only beach was closed so we had to go to the main beach area that had only a couple of lifeguards so everyone was pack in like sardines. The beach was 90% of the reason we would come here. We wont be going back any longer

Great location, in close proximity to a lot of nice places, lakes, trails and of course Bear Mountain / Harriman state parks. The lots are spacious and equipped with a fire pit, a picnic table and a bear-box. You're allowed to park one car per camp lot inside. Amenities were clean and well maintained.
