Hi-Road Basecamp Campground

Overview

Hi-Road Basecamp Campground offers a practical and scenic retreat for travelers exploring the rugged beauty of Southern Utah. Situated in Mt Carmel, this park serves as a strategic gateway for those navigating the famous Grand Circle route. The atmosphere is centered on convenience and tranquility, providing a quiet place to rest after a day of hiking or driving. Unlike the more congested areas near park entrances, this basecamp allows visitors to enjoy a slower pace while remaining close to world-class natural wonders.

Location & Surroundings

Located near the junction of Highway 89 and Highway 9, the park is nestled within a high-desert landscape characterized by juniper trees and distant sandstone formations. Its position in Mt Carmel Junction makes it an ideal waypoint between major destinations. The surroundings are peaceful, offering clear views of the starlit Utah sky at night. Travelers will appreciate the ease of access to local services while feeling immersed in the vast, open terrain of the Long Valley area.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground is designed with the modern RVer in mind, offering full hookup sites that accommodate both 30 and 50-amp connections. Many sites are designed as spacious pull-throughs, making it big-rig friendly for those with larger setups. On-site facilities include clean restrooms, hot showers, and laundry equipment to help refresh your gear. Guests can also take advantage of reliable Wi-Fi and designated fire pits, ensuring a comfortable balance between utility and the traditional camping experience.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw of Hi-Road Basecamp is its proximity to Zion National Park, specifically the scenic East Entrance which is just a short drive away. Beyond Zion, guests are within an hour's reach of the towering hoodoos at Bryce Canyon National Park. Other nearby adventures include exploring the vibrant sands of Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park or visiting the animal sanctuary and red rock canyons of Kanab. The area is a haven for photography, hiking, and off-road exploration.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an excellent fit for national park enthusiasts who want to visit multiple sites without frequently moving their rig. It is ideal for travelers who prefer a functional and quiet home base over a high-activity resort environment. Families and couples seeking a central location to explore the wonders of Southern Utah will find that the park provides everything needed for a successful expedition through the region's iconic landscapes.

Sites are earth, we had elect, water and sewer drop, and literally just outside of Zion. Rates are fair, $55 Bathrooms are a bit dated , but are designed to handle campers,, 2 shower rooms , good hot water, lots of sinks and very up to date hand soap and towel dispensers. We chose a site, unknowingly between 2 longterm campers, seemed a bit cluttered there. But overall a good experance.

Excellent! Helpful and friendly staff. They cater to RVers, vanners, and car campers too. Showers. Sites available with power and water. Very reasonable rates. They even have a laundry mat for guests. Showers, bathroom, and laundry are 24/7. Reserve online or try a walk in during office hours. Nice places to walk around. Hear theres a slot canyon out back of the office. Gift shop and restaurant across the street. Excellent dark sky during the new moon! I hope very much to stay there when I visit Zion again!

Great location to park. Laundry sucks! Absolutely, no-one seems to work here. They aren't present and I believe, literally hide from the guests. They don't uphold the rules and the just not a pleasant place to stay.

It's rustic, which is PERFECT! You get great views in the campground. You're a perfect distance from Zion National Park. The bathrooms are clean, FREE showers. The spots for camping are spacious, they have a little cafe and souvenir/supply shop across the street. Crystal at the cafe is a sweetheart who gives the biggest scoops of ice cream I've ever seen. Bernie at the registry office is a great source of information on the park and everything related to the ground. Highly recommend.

Staying here was a great experience with my family members. We came to visit Zion for the first time and we wanted to camp out of our Tesla. Unfortunately, thought the site i booked had electricity so I was in a bind with a charge enough to get me to a supercharger. The staff here was very nice and helped me out with a charged. Although the 50 amp wasn't working for us, we appreciated the gesture. The camping spot was dark which was perfect for us to stargaze especially coming from the bright lights of Las Vegas. Very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The clubhouse has restrooms, showers and coined laundry. I will return, this time with an electric spot.
