Have lived this park since early 70s.. redid lake and now it's even better with canoe/ kayak launch and other improvements.

Hickory hills park is a quiet campground. There's a nice lake with a beautiful open tree line. There's buffalo and long horn steer nearby to look at as well.

This is a gem of a park, so much so that I'm tempted to rank it low so you don't want to go there. It has rolling hills, a nice lake (except in 2025 they drained it to do some work on it), a bow range, picnic areas, a campground, a disc golf course through the woods, wildflower meadows, hunting areas, AND buffalo and elk to see. It is a hidden gem in northeastern iowa and well worth a trip, even if you just drive through.

Beautifully kept grounds with elk, bison, cabins, extremely clean bathrooms, lots of well designed sites, and a very kind camp host!

One of MY favorite places in all of Iowa, dedicated my life to the Lord here. Very peaceful to be at when it’s off season. They did take the lake out for some reason, so I wouldn’t suggest going until that’s finished unless you like to hike and such. Otherwise I HIGHLY recommend this beautiful place! 1 star off for their bathrooms 🤢.

Our second favorite park to go camping at plan on visiting there a lot more this year since we are down to fewer pets and can now take them with us. Update: Work on making the lake nicer. Was due ;).

Amazing time hiking with friends around the lake and watching colourful leaves falling and covering the ground! Great time. We even had a chance to set a fire 🔥 and have some barbecue

I was looking for a park to hike in. This was not the park for that. It holds bison, elk and pheasants in the park. Kids would enjoy to see the animals. Good place to camp, but does not have any hiking or biking trails.

Beautiful. As you drive into the park, there's long horn cattle and buffalo, and beautiful cabins and campgrounds overlooking a lake. Probably one of the prettiest, well-maintained parks I've ever been to in Iowa.
