We moved from Nebraska to Alabama and needed a place to stay while we found and closed on a house. Higgins Ferry did not disappoint!! It was a perfect home away from home for a couple of months. Very accommodating and beautifully maintained. You are sure to enjoy your time here whether it’s a short or long stay. Donald and Kathy are the best and I feel we have made new friends!! The park is becoming a more family friendly campground with events monthly for children and get to know gatherings, potluck in the pavilion. Also the park is being restored. There are now 5 primitive camp sites. The free boat launch on Lake Mitchell is a definite plus, along with a playground for the kids. Call ahead and let Ranger Giles know your coming. He or his wife Kathy if possible will greet you and assist you in getting to your site. If you haven't been to Higgins Ferry Park lately you're missing a great time. The sites are being repaired and the Park is improving almost daily. Also County Road 28, Lake Mitchell road was just widened and repaved. Make sure to call ahead for availability as Campsite usage is vastly increasing. Thanks Donald and Kathy for all you do!

We have been full time RVing since June 8, 2019, since we sold our house. When we first started camping at Higgins Ferry Campground we thought, wow this place needs new management, because the ranger seemed very lazy and unconcerned about the Appearance of the park. But soon after we started living there, come September 2019, new ranger Donald Giles and his sweet wife Kathy started to work on the appearance and now the Campground is looking awesome. With little funds and help from the City of Clanton, they have gotten love and support from the full time campers that they now have the park looking great. Best little hideaway you will find in Chilton County. Very friendly, hardworking, and helpful ranger and wife.
