High Plains Camping

RV Park

Overview

Overview

High Plains Camping serves as a welcoming oasis for travelers navigating the vast landscapes of Western Kansas. Located conveniently for those trekking along Interstate 70, this park offers a blend of tranquil prairie atmosphere and modern conveniences. It is well-regarded for its clean facilities and friendly management, providing a reliable home base whether you are passing through or exploring the unique geological wonders of the region.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Oakley, KS, the park is perfectly positioned near the intersection of I-70 and Highway 83. The surrounding landscape features the iconic wide-open vistas of the high plains, where sunsets stretch across the horizon. This location makes it an essential stop for cross-country RVers. The nearby town of Oakley offers essential services, while the park itself maintains a quiet environment away from the heavy noise of the main travel corridors.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is designed with large rigs in mind, offering spacious pull-through sites with full hookups. Travelers can enjoy a variety of recreational features that elevate the experience beyond a typical roadside stop:

  • A seasonal heated swimming pool and mini-golf course for family fun.
  • A dedicated pet run for furry companions to stretch their legs.
  • Meticulously maintained bathhouses and laundry facilities.

The on-site store ensures that visitors have everything they need for a comfortable stay without leaving the grounds.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Just a short drive away, visitors can explore the magnificent Monument Rocks, also known as the Chalk Pyramids, which rise dramatically from the prairie floor. History buffs will appreciate the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center in Oakley, which commemorates the town's connection to the legendary frontiersman. For a look into the region's prehistoric past, the Fick Fossil and History Museum offers an impressive collection of local fossils and pioneer artifacts found throughout Logan County.

Who This Park Is Best For

High Plains Camping is ideal for long-distance travelers looking for a high-quality stopover that offers more comfort than a basic parking lot. Families will appreciate the on-site entertainment like the playground and pool, while big-rig owners will value the easy access and level sites. It is a perfect fit for those who enjoy wide-open spaces and the quiet beauty of the Kansas plains while still requiring reliable, modern amenities during their journey.

Not a lot of extras but good simple camping. Level Gravel parking . Easy check in. Just what was needed . Also , a great Mexican restaurant just off the property in walking distance.

Campground is easy to access from highway. We stayed in pull thru site, FHU. New owners of the campground are working to make this campground a better place. Flat, gravel site. Still have some burrs , looks like they are working on a splash pad and some other improvements. Fairly quiet. Would stay here again. Not a fan of overpass however.
