Great place to camp right on Lake Michigan!! A little road noise, but not bad. Sites are spaced well and pretty private. Dog friendly, vault toilets and water. Beautiful sunsets!!

Very beautiful first stay and we will be coming back. I made a shirt and got a perfect beautiful view of lake Michigan in the background. Many heart's rather water did it, or earth w rocks. I loved our camp site spot. Thank you for this beautiful lakeside camping spot. First come first serve. I recommend looking first thing in the morning. Then at 1pm when people check out if you don't see a site available in the morning. Tags will say when they are leaving so you can get

We came here a few times. It is always peaceful and serene. In August you will see many butterflies leaving for migration. Great beach area .

Seeing the brilliance of the setting sun, by moonlight, is not something I ever expected to experience, but here it is. Site 14, but many others have this same view. Stunning!

Best place to camp! Especially if you enjoy not being around a bunch of giant metal campers 😉 the views are amazing, the out houses didn't smell (at least when I was there) I've been going since I was a kid so it's a very special place to make good memories ❤️ just bring LOTS of bug spray! *It was also nice and quiet, and if people had music/noise it wasn't very loud bc the spots are spaced out

Great State Forest Campground. The location of this campground is the best, being right on Lake Michigan. The sunsets are quite nice, like many are on the coast of Lake Michigan. And something about the giant pine trees, both in the campground and down by the water, make this campground majestic. The spots here are very nice and spacious. Try to get a spot near the water if you decide to camp here. It's well worth it. Much like the other state forest campgrounds, there are not any showers or electric. It's pure rustic camping. It's a true feeling of nature when camping in this place. If you are coming from the Lower Peninsula and you drive down 2, the roadside beaches are little hidden gems. They are kind of low-key. So if you are reading this right now, don't tell anybody about them :) I never had any flaws in which I ran into at Detour state forest campground, which is on the other side of the UP on Lake Huron. No bugs, clean toilets, and firm ground to set up your gear. Overall, this campground gets a thumbs up.

This is probably the best State Forest campground that we have been to. Lots of open space, generous site sizes, and write up next to the Lake Michigan shoreline. It's a quiet campground despite others just miles to the east being filled up. Well groomed trails and everything cut nice and neat. Met the camp liaison officer and he was a really cool dude. Definitely recommend!

Camp right on the north shore of Lake Michigan. The sound of the waves and the view of the night sky, awesome.

We've camped here several times over the past few years, and it is one our favorites! It's very nice and usually isn't very busy. And all the sites are beautiful, especially the ones right on lake Michigan! Some of the sites are too small for a fifth wheel or camper, but mostly they are all nice sizes. And there's also an awesome zoo across the road!

Perfect place to stop and camp before heading back down over the bridge. We had a wonderful and relaxing time here!

A beautiful, rustic camping experience. I remember as a child our family camping here in what could have been the same spot, feet from the shore of Lake Michigan. Vault toilets, water pump and no electricity, this is a great state forest campground on the northern shore of Lake Michigan. A lakeside campsite was amazing.

This is a primitive state forest campground right on the shore of Lake Michigan that is larger than most in Michigan. The sites vary in size and shape, but many pretty small. It cost $15 for overnight. Water is available. Pit toilets. No electric. 30 miles from Mackinaw Bridge.
