Indian Graves PRA

Overview

Indian Graves Provincial Recreation Area offers a rustic escape into the southern reaches of Kananaskis Country. Known for its extraordinary natural beauty and seclusion, this park serves as a gateway to the rugged foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Unlike high-traffic mountain resorts, it provides a quiet atmosphere where travelers can truly disconnect from the modern world. The park is characterized by its open meadows and its close proximity to the tranquil, winding Willow Creek.

Location & Surroundings

Situated along Highway 532, the park is tucked away in a more remote section of Alberta’s southwest. The surrounding landscape features a stunning mix of towering lodgepole pine forests and rolling foothills. Access to the park can be a bit of an adventure, as the approach road is often gravel and quite winding, offering spectacular views of the Livingstone Range along the way. This location is perfect for those looking to explore the unspoiled wilderness away from the busier mountain corridors of the north.

Amenities & Park Features

As a provincial recreation area, the facilities at Indian Graves are intentionally basic, catering to self-sufficient campers and outdoor enthusiasts. The park offers unserviced sites that are each equipped with sturdy fire pits and picnic tables. While there are vault toilets and a hand pump for water available, visitors should come prepared with their own drinking water and power. The spacious, well-spaced sites provide a genuine sense of privacy, making it an ideal spot for boondocking-style RVing within a managed provincial setting.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors to this specific region of Kananaskis. The area is highly popular for off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts, with numerous trails accessible in the nearby Public Land Use Zones. Anglers often frequent the banks of Willow Creek to test their luck fishing for trout, while hikers can explore the surrounding ridges. The close proximity to the Livingstone Public Land Use Zone ensures that adventure seekers have thousands of acres of rugged terrain to navigate and explore during their stay.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is best suited for RVers who prefer a primitive camping experience and rugged surroundings over luxury amenities or full hookups. It is a perennial favorite for families traveling with OHVs, equestrian enthusiasts, and those who enjoy a completely self-contained lifestyle. If you are looking for a peaceful, off-the-grid retreat where the night stars are bright and the cell service is limited, Indian Graves PRA provides the perfect backcountry-lite environment for your next Alberta mountain adventure.

Quiet and family focused campsite. Stayed in a lot by the creek which made for great white noise. The location is close to chain lakes and bear pond. ATV and horse friendly. No running water other than a hand pump to get non potable well water.

No firewood available anymore, 4x4 speeding through the camping area and disgusting porta potties. Horse camping useless and not kept in good shape. It’s a shame bc the sites themselves are really nice!

Frequently book this campsite and this year brought friends. Hank (site owner/manager I believe) is amazing, came around for firewood whenever we needed and keeps the outhouses in really clean shape which is always appreciated. Sites themselves are a good size, views with the creek are nice and it’s not too far out of town for a nice little weekend getaway. Absolutely love it and will be back! ☺️
