Overview
Interstate State Park in Taylors Falls offers a unique camping experience centered around the dramatic geology of the St. Croix River Valley. As one of Minnesota's oldest state parks, it provides a rugged, natural atmosphere that emphasizes the beauty of the Dalles of the St. Croix. RV travelers will find a peaceful retreat where the sounds of the river and the whispering pines create an immersive outdoor environment focused on the preservation of glacial history.
Location & Surroundings
Situated right on the border of Minnesota and Wisconsin, the park is perched above the scenic St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. The surrounding landscape is defined by towering basalt cliffs and lush hardwood forests that change vibrantly with the seasons. Located just a short drive from the charming downtown area of Taylors Falls, visitors can enjoy a blend of secluded wilderness and easy access to local shops and the historic architecture that characterizes this iconic river town.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features 37 sites, providing a mix of sun and shade for travelers. RVers will find several key features to make their stay comfortable:
- 22 electric hookups available for various rig sizes.
- A convenient sanitary dump station located near the campground entrance.
- Seasonal access to clean showers and modern flush toilets.
While the park maintains a rustic charm, these utilities ensure a functional stay. Most sites can accommodate rigs up to 45 feet in length, though it is always wise to check specific site dimensions when planning a visit.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The park is world-renowned for its glacial potholes, which are some of the deepest and most unique geological formations in the world. Visitors can spend days exploring the various hiking trails that wind along the river cliffs or enjoy a narrated paddlewheel boat tour. For adventure seekers, the park offers exceptional rock climbing opportunities on the basalt cliffs. Just minutes away, the Franconia Sculpture Park and Wild Mountain provide additional entertainment for families and art lovers.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for nature enthusiasts and photographers who prioritize scenic beauty and outdoor recreation over resort-style amenities. It is a perfect fit for travelers with small to mid-sized RVs looking for a basecamp to explore the river valley. If you enjoy geological history and tranquil nights under the stars in a state park setting, Interstate State Park offers a refreshing escape from more commercialized campgrounds.

Absolutely lovely trails!!! Kept up very nice and is clean! They have very accessible restrooms as well. This is definitely a trail to come visit if you're in Minnesota or Wisconsin. The views are breathtaking and the people who visit the area are also so very kind!

9/29/25 2pm. A nice and interesting State Park to visit along the St Croix River. Typically busy, but not on this Monday is why we went. Barely anyone there and as a result lots of parking. It was unseasonably hot, 85, so we didn't do a lot of walking around like we usually do. The unusual rock formations in the park are a contrast to the rugged jagget rocks and cliffs along the St Croix River.

I had never heard of Interstate State park and have lived mostly in Minnesota most of my life. So, for me personally on this Labor Day adventure the enjoyment for me was seeing a part of Minnesota I didn't know exist. I'm overweight and out of shape so was a bit intimidated by a lot of hiking. I did though see the visitor center and go a short way down the potholes trail near the visitor center. I was very impressed by what I saw and there were lots of people there and it was a short but fun enriching experience. It was nice to commune with nature and see these potholes. I'm truly amazed by the glacial potholes. I found inspiration for my fitness goals maybe to hike there someday. I will hopefully return and do a longer hike, camp etc. I really liked it there though and it was beautiful late summer weather. I highly recommend anyone check out this place.

One of my favorite parks. The stairs on the bluffs trail look like they need some love, but otherwise great views, lots of trail options, can ride the paddle boat for a fee (as of my post, it's dog friendly as well at no extra charge). There's canoe/kayak rental and a shuttle bus that will bring you back. Lots of options. Campground is less than a mile down the road from town.

Stopped by after work, this place was recommended by coworker. I’m visiting from Houston and I love sight seeing. It was not busy during my arrival on a Wednesday around 7pm. Paid 7 dollar for day parking. You can always enter through the Minnesota side also and the parking uses the same tag. Plenty of parking and I notice there’s a couple of park benches along the way. Trails were very nice, easy for folks of all ages to trek. You can explore the rocky area at your own risk, I wouldn’t recommend it for kids unless you feel comfortable. This place is really beautiful and I wished I had more time to explore. Mother Nature is a true artist.
