Ironwood Point Recreation Area

Overview

Ironwood Point Recreation Area serves as a peaceful retreat nestled along the southern shores of Lake Wallenpaupack. Unlike high-traffic commercial resorts, this park offers a more traditional camping experience where the natural landscape takes center stage. It is one of several managed sites providing direct access to the third-largest lake in Pennsylvania. Visitors often come here to escape the hustle of city life, finding a quiet balance between wooded privacy and convenient water access for a refreshing Pocono Mountains getaway.

Location & Surroundings

Located in the town of Greentown, Pennsylvania, the park sits within the scenic heart of Pike and Wayne Counties. The surrounding geography is defined by rolling hills and dense deciduous forests that transform with vibrant colors during the autumn months. Its position on the lake provides panoramic views and a refreshing breeze during the summer heat. The area maintains a remote atmosphere while remaining easily accessible from major highways, making it a favorite for travelers seeking the serene beauty of the Northern Poconos.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility is well-equipped for various camping styles, offering both seasonal and daily RV sites. While the sites feel rustic, the well-maintained grounds ensure a comfortable stay for those who value nature. Key features include:

  • A private boat launch for easy lake access.
  • Seasonal boat slip rentals and courtesy docks.
  • On-site playground and spacious picnic areas.

The park provides essential comforts such as a modern bathhouse with hot showers and laundry facilities. This infrastructure supports longer stays for families who want to spend their entire summer on the water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Boating and fishing are the primary draws, with the lake known for its healthy population of bass and walleye. Just a short drive away, visitors can explore Promised Land State Park for miles of hiking trails and additional wildlife viewing. For families, the Claws 'N' Paws Wild Animal Park offers an interactive zoo experience nearby. Local marinas and lakeside restaurants provide entertainment options just outside the park gates, allowing for a mix of wilderness exploration and small-town charm.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for water sports enthusiasts and boaters who want their vessel close by. It appeals to families looking for a traditional outdoor experience where the focus is on campfire stories and lake days rather than digital distractions. I have been coming to Ironwood Point my entire life. In my opinion it’s in the most beautiful part of the lake, complete with stunning views and perfect sunsets. We keep our boat docked here, and the boat launch is one of the best on the lake. There’s also a gas dock if you need your boat filled up. The camp store is a hidden gem of a place! Some of the best lake merch you’ll find is here. Every time I stop in I seem to find a new t-shirt, sweatshirt or hat that I really can’t live without. They also have thought of so many items that we seem to forget or need often and the convenience can’t be beat. The owners are the kindest people, and they always find the time to say hello. There is ample parking. While I’m personally not a camper, if I were looking to camp anywhere on the lake, this would certainly be the spot. If you haven’t driven down to check it out, you’re missing it!

I come here to use their boat ramp, and don't charge much. Haven't done any camping, but see plenty of folks that do.

It was a very nice launch with clean bathrooms and looked like a nice campground. We enjoyed a wonderful day of sailing with members of the Paupack sailing club .

Absolutely loved staying here I could not get over how beautiful the tent sites were. The views of the lake are great and the sites are well spaced and maintained. The walk in sites aren't far from the parking area and offer the best experience to really feel like you are surrounded by nature. Already planning a second trip before the end of the season highly recommend.

Stayed over 4th of July last summer. (Just getting around to writing review as I have started to plan camping for this summer.). Very nice campground! Owners were very nice and little store on site has anything you need. Lakeside sites very nice, hoping to snag one this year. We had Site 48 which was very convenient for unpacking and going to restrooms, but lakeside sites looked much better.
