Isla Blanca Park (Cameron County Park)
Overview
Isla Blanca Park stands as the crown jewel of the Cameron County park system, situated on the southernmost tip of South Padre Island. This sprawling destination offers more than just a place to park an RV; it provides a comprehensive beachfront experience with over a mile of pristine white sand. As a premier destination for travelers in the Rio Grande Valley, the park balances public accessibility with organized camping, making it one of the most popular coastal stops in Texas for those seeking sun and surf.
Location & Surroundings
The park is uniquely positioned where the Laguna Madre meets the Gulf of Mexico. This prime coastal location offers visitors unparalleled views of the Brazos Santiago Pass, where massive ships and shrimp boats frequently glide past. Surrounded by turquoise waters, the park feels like a secluded island escape while remaining conveniently close to the amenities of the city of South Padre Island. The nearby Queen Isabella Causeway provides the only land link to the mainland, framing the western horizon.
Amenities & Park Features
With over 600 sites, the park accommodates a wide variety of rigs with full hookup options including water, sewer, and electricity. Guests have access to modern bathhouses, shaded picnic areas, and two large beachfront pavilions. For those who enjoy the water, the park features a walking jetty that extends into the Gulf, providing a perfect spot for watching dolphins or catching a sunset. On-site boat ramps and several walking trails ensure that outdoor recreation is always within reach.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure is never far away when staying at Isla Blanca. One of the most unique draws is the clear view of the SpaceX Starbase facility located just across the channel at Boca Chica. Families often spend their days at the neighboring Beach Park at Isla Blanca waterpark or visiting the nearby Sea Turtle Inc. rescue center. Anglers will appreciate the world-class fishing opportunities available right from the jetties or via local offshore charters departing from the nearby marinas.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal fit for active beach lovers and families who want to be steps away from the ocean. It serves as a vibrant hub for Winter Texans who flock to the area for the mild climate and community atmosphere during the colder months. Because of its vast size and various site types, it is equally suited for big-rig owners and those who prefer a more social, bustling park environment. If you enjoy a coastal resort vibe with plenty of activity, this is your spot.

This is a large, very clean park with restrooms. We went there to watch a SpaceX launch and spend the day on the beach. There was a $12 charge per car.

This was our first time to visit this area. The beach was great, full of families and clean. The peer was really cool to explore and to watch the launch of the SpaceX rocket. A treat indeed. I recommend this as the best viewing area for the rocket launches and for excellent fishing.

Don't love that you have to pay to get to this area of the island. We went here for people to fish at the Jetty's and to see the statue. While waiting, some of us went to the beach. There are amenities at this beach that were nice such as showers and someone selling ice cream - but the location being so close to the Jetty's made the surf really calm and kinda boring compared to beaches further north that had nice waves. Good beach for little kids with an insane amount of seashells.

We had a nice time here. Our site C193, had a great location near the sidewalk path and not too far from the bathhouse. The bathhouse near us had 2 separate rooms, one with 2 stalls and the other with 3 showers. The showers were large and made it easy enough to bath me and my daughter. They were pretty old and cracked though so that is the only complaint there. There was a code to get into both. The beach access, jetty, and lagoon area were enjoyable. The time we were there a lot of tar was washing up on the beach and we weren't aware of what it was and we had a hard time cleaning it off. The reason for the 4 star rating is because of the check in process and the entry into the park. We were never told check in was before arrival at the gate. The rude person at the gate then made us go back, which required a complete drive through the park as there was no way to turn around in our large RV. When we got to check in, there was a long line and it took over a half an hour. Each time we entered the park there was a long line at entry and it would be nice if there was a separate entrance for those with passes who didn't need to pay. All in all we had a great time, but those inconveniences made entering the park a hassle. Beautiful sunrise over the Gulf, sunset over the bay, and it's cool watching the large container ships through the canal

My husband and I stayed here for a few weeks in January and had a great experience. There is easy access to the beach and a nice boardwalk if you don't want to walk in the sand. Because we came off season, a lot of places were closed or had limited hours, but we enjoyed walking into town. There's also a free trolley that was really convenient. Checking in was a little confusing. We ended up at the guard shack and were told we needed to turn around and check in at the building on the corner. The bathrooms and park were well maintained.
