It's great! The rangers are super helpful! "Most" campers know the rules. Unfortunately some don't clean up after themselves and will make (unreasonable) noise late (past 2am) into the night. Also there are two easy quick hikes to great views from this campground. Also the camp host's little corgi was adorable! First rule of camping: Leave it better than you found it!!!!

We were site 21 both times we went. We loved it because it's one of the sites on the edge of the campground. 23 and 25 are also on the edges and look nice!! It was also close to the restroom without being right next to it. It is also close to a trailhead that you can access almost all the other trails from. The only downside of that specific site is that it does not have a lot of trees directly next to the site to provide shade like some of the other sites sites. This campground does not feel like you are out in nature necessarily because it is very large and there are a lot of people, but it's nice for hanging out with friends or family! There is also cell service and it is close to town, so it is easy to pop into town for something you forgot! The main downside of the campground is that it is not connected to the rest of Joshua tree national Park, so if you are intending to explore the main part of Joshua tree, it would be a little bit of a drive to get there. However, this area of Joshua tree is one of our favorites because although it does not have the signature Rock piles that the rest of Joshua tree has, there are so many actual Joshua trees! We also enjoy hiking this area because it is way less busy than the rest of the park.

This is the worst Federal National Park campground I've ever seen! Where to start!? To far from Joshua Tree National Park! Campsite and most have no grass, are just dirt, compressed together, not level, and little to no shade! Water spigot has hornet bees! Campfires from neighbors. No host regulating noise from parties. Bathrooms are dirty and no showers all for $35/night... really! Never again! Stay away!

Stayed at site 28. We loved it. Easy to find campsites. Spacious but you definitely do have neighbors. The visitor center employees are very nice and the gift shop was reasonably priced. The bathrooms were VERY clean and there’s 4 stalls available. The water was easily accessible. Yes you can see the town lights but it didn’t bother us and it was still pitch black. Trails are easily accessible.

Beautiful campground nestled in the desert hills with lots of Joshua Trees all around. There are water spigots and the bathrooms are very nice! They have flushing toilets, soap and running water, sensor lights and insulated walls. There is also a visitor center in the heart of the campground with friendly staff. The campground is on the outskirts of a neighborhood and a close drive to town. I'll definitely camp here again.

I’ve been to this campground three times so far, and I’ve had a good experience each time. Plenty of space at the camp site, clean bathrooms stocked with toilet paper and soap, and some nice trails nearby!

Black Rock Canyon Campground is an excellent place for beginners to experience camping without being to remote from civilization. The campground is well kept and the park rangers are extremely helpful. Good restaurants and several markets are only a couple of miles away, so you do not need to rough it too much. I took my nephew here for his first experince camping and he loved it. Starwatching is awesome at this place!! Enjoy!!

We booked a camp spot there. Not the best one as we did not have any shade at all. You can park 2 cars and 2 tents. This campsite is not located inside Joshua Park but very close to the entrance gate (about 10minutes). This location offers easy access to easy hikes. The toilets are clean, no shower. RV damper is available. Fire pits and barbecue on each spot. Going back to Joshua tree, we would book a campsite directly inside the park. The hidden trail campground is perfect.

Amazing campsite. If you’re planning a trip to Joshua Tree this is the best campground to stay at. This camp sits at a higher elevation than the other campgrounds and is not as hot as the others. Every site has Joshua Trees surrounding it providing shade and a spectacular view. The rest rooms are flushing and where clean, there aren’t showers but they do have water available throughout the camp ground if you want to bring a solar shower set up.. Each site comes with a picnic table and a nice screened fire pit. Another great thing about this camp is that it’s right next to the town of Yucca Valley making it easy to find food and you also have good cell reception. Reminder to get up at night and take in the stars and get some pictures..

My friends and I stayed here in late October 2024 at site 067. This campground is part of Joshua Tree National Park but is not within the park limits. There is no park entrance fee needed for this campground. This campground gives the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere but you're a short 5 minute drive to civilization. There is a camp host on site. Ours was friendly, but by the book as far as tent limits and the number of people. Our fault for missing the details on our reservation, but a majority of these sites are larger than most other campgrounds I've stayed at so, we honestly didn't see any issues. We were within the limits of our site and honestly still could have entertained a couple more tents. This campground is fairly clean, restrooms are passable, various hiking trails surrounding the grounds, and limited to no shade. If you are looking for dark skies for telescope viewing or star gazing, there are better sites deeper into JTree.

Located within the edge of the park, this campground has a good number of places to accommodate tents, rv’s and vans. With a couple of nice trails that depart from it, it’s also a great spot to warm up your hiking skills prior deep diving into the heart of Joshua Tree. A couple of toilets are available through the camp as well as water pumps. Each spot has a fire pit and a bbq for your personal usage. Last, a few grocery stores are a few miles distance in case you are missing things.

We stayed here for 3 nights in the middle of April. The weather was great and the hiking was wonderful. We did the eureka peak, westside loop and panorama loop trials. There were some flowering cactus of different species with pink red and white flowers. We stayed in campsite 75. Contrary to the site description we had no problem finding space for 1 large, 1 medium and 1 small tent with our two cars and a 13 ft popup placed over the picnic table. The bathrooms were close by and clean the water one space over with the visitor center a short walk.

This location is 12 miles from the west park entrance, but it has nice views of the surrounding hills, access to a couple of hiking trails, water and bathrooms. The downside is there tend to be many mega campers here with large groups that all run their generators even outside the normal prescribed hours. It’s not peaceful at all. We’ve been camping for the last 30 years and this ranks as the worst in terms of noise. We wouldn’t camp here again.

This is a nice campground. I didn't give it it 5 starts due to no showers, and it's not really in the park that would make it the perfect campground. The bathroom with a sink and flush toilet is very nice to have when camping. The host kept them clean and stocked, which is a plus. There's is an office which has plenty of information about the park and sounding area. They even sell some souvenirs. The campground itself is big Plenty of sites are gonna have a flat spot for a tent. All sites come with a grill, picnic table and fire ring. They have plenty of bathrooms and water tap throughout the campground. It's technically in the park, but to get to all the attractions, you actually have to drive out onto the main highway and drive about 20 minutes to the closet entrance of the park and visitor center. There is a Walmart not too far from the campground about a 10 minute drive. The shower issue was solved by going to a gym in town and buying a day pass. The grocery store is also 10 minutes away. This was very convenient.
