Indian Cove Campground is hands down one of the most unique and peaceful places to stay in Joshua Tree National Park. Surrounded by massive rock formations, it feels secluded, quiet, and incredibly raw — like you’re camping inside a natural stone cathedral.

The campsites are well spaced, giving you privacy and that true desert solitude. No RV hookups, no noise, no distractions — just rocks, sky, wind, and silence. This is real camping, not a parking lot with tents.

Sunsets here are unreal, and at night the stars are absolutely breathtaking. If you’re into hiking, climbing, photography, or just disconnecting from everything, this place is perfect. You can step out of your tent and immediately feel like you’re deep in the wilderness.

Facilities are basic but clean and well maintained, which is exactly what you want in a place like this. Indian Cove isn’t for everyone — and that’s why it’s special.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants an authentic Joshua Tree experience

Stayed two nights in the group site G02, and wow what a great spot! Really cool rock formations with the firepit being tucked right up against them. The site is very wide, very flat, well kept, and has a lot of larger plants in between to form some privacy between groups. Vault toilets well stocked with TP, multiple tables, a large fire pit that has a grate over it, and a large bbq stand that also has grates over it. Was enough space for 40ish of us to all move around and park easily. Also early February was not even that cold overnight. Maybe high 40s, mid 50s. 35$ for regular, 55$ for group.

One of the best places to camp in SoCal. Feels like a remote place even though it’s 15 minutes away from commercial towns. Super clean, quite and spacious campsites with separate campgrounds for groups.

Gorgeous campground but it feels designed for tent camping, not RVs. We were able to get into site 61 with a 25ft Airstream but it was tight and  uneven. Absolutely worth it but if you're an anxious parker and have a longer rig, study the map and site before you arrive. Class Bs and shorter travel trailers would have the best luck and most options.

I recently had an excellent experience staying at an Indian campground near Joshua Tree, and it ended up being one of the highlights of my trip. The area was peaceful, beautifully maintained, and surrounded by the kind of desert scenery that makes you slow down and appreciate the moment. The staff and hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming. They took the time to explain the layout of the grounds, share local history, and point out the best spots to explore both inside the campground and out in Joshua Tree National Park.

The campsite itself was clean, quiet, and thoughtfully arranged. Each site had enough space for privacy while still feeling like part of a friendly community. The amenities—restrooms, fire pits, and shaded areas—were well kept and made the stay very comfortable. Even at night, the campground felt safe and serene. The absence of city lights created a stunning view of the stars that I won’t forget anytime soon.

This campground offered exactly what I was hoping for: a calm, welcoming place to unwind while still being close to all the natural beauty of Joshua Tree. I would absolutely return and recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful desert getaway.

One of the best campgrounds in the desert that I have enjoyed. No water or dump stations. Has vault bathrooms that are kept well stocked and clean. All campsites come with a picnic table, fire ring and grill. Beautiful place to stargaze or go hiking and rock climbing. Peaceful and pleasant 🫡

This campground is located outside of Joshua Tree, not inside the national park. It’s quite large and can accommodate many people, but the sites aren’t very well separated. When we visited, there weren’t many other campers, but the light pollution was fairly strong, so it wasn’t dark enough to see the Milky Way. There were lots of insects, and the ground was very hard, making it difficult to drive in tent stakes. The weather was extremely hot, even at night.

It's close to town yet you feel quite isolated. Beautiful scenery, GIANT piles of rocks to explore everywhere. Wildlife galore if you take the time to look for it. Try hiking up rattlesnake canyon after a good rain. You won't believe the waterfalls!

Great place to be in Joshua Tree national Park, this place is out of this world, so many great trails and scenic spots that will enrich your mind. Overall Joshua Tree is  Avery interesting place to visit and to camp if you like adventures. I liked raddle snake trail a lot!!

Had a lovely time at the Joshua Tree group campsite. We were a large group of 75+ and we arrived in the late afternoon and stayed just for the night to stargaze. The bathroom facility was clean, although no running water, and there was plenty of toilet paper. The night sky is the best part. The air is clear and the rocky hills are fun to climb.

Best spot of camping all week! Nestled right in the boulders! Sites were well maintained, fires gave off cool reflections off the rocks. Did some scrambling in Rattlesnake Canyon but only got about a half mile in then we just couldn’t find the trail so we turned back.

Super chill area to camp. I visited campground 13. Shadow tip: There is a big rock that provides shade after 1 pm

Loved our camp site. I'd recommend booking any of the sites from 29-39 or up to 16. The others are tiny and on the main route.

We were at spot 30 and had an amazing cave behind us. We were able to set up our tent a little inside it to protect against the sun.

There are lots of drop toilets and trash cans.

Great dramatic rocks in nearly every campsite. Most of the sites are larger than what you can get at Jumbo Rocks.

Water is available at the Rangers Station on the way in. Vault toilets are pretty well maintained.

Really great campground spot. Lots of interesting rock bouldering and a few hiking trails to select from. Thought this was one of the best sites in the park camping right up against the rock formations and sites had some space between them. Less people around like Skull Rock area. Need to travel to get to better hiking trails, so do so either on way in or out. If using AllTrails, I do recommend, do not travel the Mount Bob Loop - it really is not authorized and it turned out to have bouldering kids or many just can't manage.

In winter this is a great spot to camp. It’s generally a bit warmer than the main park, which can be great for overnight. Ample climbs and trails plus cool campsites. The only downfall are other people and their choices not to follow the rules. We had two dogs charge out of campsites because they were not leashed, even knocking my daughter down. And we had an RV insist on running their generator throughout the night, which is against the rules. I didn’t ding the rating for that, because those are human issues, not the fault of the campsites. The stars at night are spectacular and they’ve got picnic tables and fire rings.
