Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park

Overview

Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park serves as one of the flagship destinations within the Kentucky state park system. Located on the northern edge of Kentucky Lake, this expansive resort combines the comforts of a modern hotel with the rugged beauty of the Land Between the Lakes region. It offers a balanced experience for RVers who want access to high-end facilities while remaining immersed in a lush lakeside environment. It is a place where professional hospitality meets the serenity of the Kentucky backcountry, making it more of a destination resort than a simple stopover.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Gilbertsville, the park sits just below the massive Kentucky Dam, which creates one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the United States. The surrounding landscape is defined by rolling hills and dense woodlands that provide a natural buffer from the outside world. Being located near the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, the park serves as a gateway to thousands of acres of protected forest and shoreline, offering a diverse ecosystem for travelers to explore through both land and water routes.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground provides a variety of setups, including numerous sites equipped with water and electric hookups suitable for various RV sizes. Guests have access to modern bathhouses, a dump station, and a park grocery store for essentials. Beyond the campsites, the resort features several premium amenities:

  • An 18-hole championship golf course with a pro shop
  • A full-service marina for boat rentals and slips
  • Seasonal swimming pool and tennis courts

These features ensure that even though you are camping, you never feel disconnected from convenience or high-quality recreation during your stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water recreation is the primary draw here, with the marina providing easy access for fishing and boating on the expansive lake waters. On land, visitors can enjoy the Eagle Scout Trail for hiking or spend an afternoon at the park’s designated beach area. Just a short drive away, the Grand Rivers community offers charming boutiques and local dining experiences. For those interested in engineering and history, the viewing areas near the dam provide a unique look at the region’s hydroelectric legacy and the lock systems that manage river traffic.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for families and active seniors who appreciate a resort-style atmosphere without sacrificing the traditional camping experience. Because of the paved roads and diverse amenities, it is particularly well-suited for big-rig travelers looking for a reliable and accessible home base. Whether you are an avid angler looking for the next big catch or a golfer wanting to tee off near the water, the park offers a versatile environment for all types of outdoor enthusiasts seeking both comfort and nature.

Everything about this place is really awesome. Just do NOT book at the cottages. There's a house in that neighborhood that locks their dog outside and the dog just runs around in circles barking for hours. It can be heard about 3/4 of a mile away, which means over 60 houses has to listen to it. I say again, avoid the cottages at all costs. How dare they allow people to book here and just expect them to put up with that. And shame to the dog owner and anybody else that does this to their neighbors.

I stayed one night as a single woman on my way across the country. I had a room with a peekaboo view of the marina. The bed was comfortable. However, the room smelled badly of mold, causing sneezing and burning eyes all night. There were dead bugs in the single sink that floated in the water that was slow to drain. I was planning to eat dinner at the restaurant, but it was closed for some reason. I had a leftover meal with me, but there was no in room fridge or microwave. The internet and cell service were spotty. The door locks were minimal, so I put chairs under the knobs for additional safety. Due to the mold, I got up and left before dawn.

Great place to stay and relax. View of lake is beautiful. Very peaceful and quiet, and the grounds are well maintained. Resort offers Breakfast Lunch and Dinner. Pool was drained on our visit. Lodge rooms are well maintained, but have no refrigerator or microwave. Probably because the power coming out of the outlets can't handle the wattage. I say this because charging cell phones take for ever and using phone while being charged decreases power on phone.

Great place to stay. Plenty of room and location is good. The pool should be open a little later and needs a good cleaning. Restaurant was okay, your typical buffet food but not terrible. I would recommend it if there is nowhere else to stay in the area.

It looks very nice. Beautiful countryside. Ive never actually been. My sailboat is at the marina next to the village. But, if you want to stay by a lovely lake, wish to rent a boat, and love the outdoors, my rating is 5 of 5. I pay over 3000.00 a year to stay just because its a very relaxing and well equipped marina.
