Kerr Lake/Nutbush Bridge
Overview
Nutbush Bridge is a standout destination within the expansive Kerr Lake State Recreation Area, offering a peaceful escape on the shores of one of the largest reservoirs in the Southeast. Situated near Henderson, North Carolina, this recreation area provides visitors with direct access to over 800 miles of shoreline. The park is widely recognized for its densely wooded campsites that provide a sense of natural seclusion while keeping the vast lake within easy walking distance for all visitors.
Location & Surroundings
Located just north of Henderson, North Carolina, the Nutbush Bridge area is conveniently accessible for travelers via Interstate 85. The surrounding landscape is a lush, vibrant mix of mature hardwood forests and sparkling water. This specific section of the lake is particularly known for its sheltered coves and quiet inlets, making it a much calmer spot for those looking to avoid the heavy winds often found on the more open reaches of the reservoir.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features several distinct camping loops designed to accommodate a variety of RV sizes and styles. While some areas remain primitive for a more traditional experience, loops C and D offer dedicated electric and water hookups suitable for most modern rigs. On-site facilities include multiple centrally located bathhouses with hot showers and a well-maintained dump station for guest use. For those bringing watercraft, the park provides several boat ramps that ensure quick, easy access to the water.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Anglers frequently visit this region for the world-class striped bass and crappie fishing, which remains a primary draw throughout the year. Beyond the water activities, visitors can easily explore the nearby Satterwhite Point area for swimming beaches and large picnic pavilions. The historic downtown of Henderson is just a short drive away, offering a unique glimpse into regional history and providing essential local services for campers staying for a longer duration.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is an ideal choice for boating enthusiasts and dedicated anglers who want to be parked just steps away from the water's edge. Because of its preserved natural setting and lack of commercial clutter, it serves families and outdoor lovers seeking a quiet, rustic retreat rather than a busy resort experience. It is the perfect fit for RVers who value scenic vistas, natural shade, and active outdoor recreation above all else.

Never saw any park employees, bathrooms were not cleaned during our 2 night stay. Lots of random people came into the bathhouse to shower who did not appear to be camping here. This morning a man was taking a shower in the women’s bathroom! Yesterday, multiple “transactions” appeared to take place with people coming and going (I think you know what I am referring to.) I would give it no stars, but the view was nice and the campground quiet.

Very good waterview sites. The bathrooms can use some better cleaning and updates. There are spiders and bugs all over the bathrooms.

I highly recommend this camping area.

Neat little campground on lake Kerr. Very clean and well laid out. Zero hiking trails so if you're looking to walk in the woods, not gonna happen here. Bike riding was fantastic and there are plenty of places to put a kayak or small craft in along the shore. Good solid boat ramps, centrally located trash area and bath house.

Beautiful views. Tent camping right on the lake. Unfortunately, I couldn't sleep much due to loud county music blasting late into the night. I probably won't come back on a weekend night. We'd consider a less crowded weekday. Mens restroom was clean. Women's restrooms were disgusting. Toilets clogged and hadn't been cleaned.
