Kings Canyon/Moraine
Overview
Moraine Campground offers a classic, rustic camping experience nestled deep within the Cedar Grove area of Kings Canyon National Park. Unlike developed resorts, this park provides a true immersion into the heart of the Sierra Nevada wilderness. RV travelers will appreciate the stunning canyon views and the sweet scent of incense cedars. It serves as a peaceful, remote retreat for those looking to disconnect and reconnect with the magnificent natural world.
Location & Surroundings
Situated at an elevation of 4,600 feet, the campground is located on the floor of the spectacular South Fork of the Kings River canyon. High, glaciated granite cliffs rise sharply on both sides, creating a dramatic backdrop for every campsite. The area is heavily forested with tall Ponderosa pines, providing natural shade and privacy that is often missing in commercial parks. The gentle sound of the nearby rushing river adds a soothing, natural soundtrack.
Amenities & Park Features
As a national park facility, Moraine focuses on the essentials. It provides flush toilets and potable water, though there are no hookups available for RVs. Each site is well-maintained and includes the following features:
- Flush toilets and seasonal potable water stations.
- Individual fire rings and picnic tables at every site.
- Large metal bear boxes for secure food storage.
The mandatory food lockers keep both travelers and wildlife safe throughout the summer season. While simple, these amenities ensure a comfortable stay for self-contained rigs.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The Cedar Grove area is an absolute paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Just a short drive away, you can explore the lush greenery of Zumwalt Meadow or witness the power of Roaring River Falls. For more adventure, the Mist Falls trailhead offers a rewarding trek into the backcountry. Fishing enthusiasts will find plenty of spots along the Kings River, while the scenic canyon drive provides endless panoramic photo opportunities for every visitor.
Who This Park Is Best For
Moraine is ideal for the adventurous RVer who prioritizes spectacular scenery and solitude over modern hookups. It is best suited for those driving smaller rigs or camper vans, as sites typically accommodate lengths up to 30 feet. Travelers who enjoy dry camping and want to wake up near world-class hiking trails will find this location perfect. It is the ultimate choice for a traditional, unplugged and authentic park experience.

Absolutely beautiful and amazing. It’s a great place if you wanna get away from the city … there is no service which for me personally was amazing because I could fully disconnect and unwind. It is super close to the river and also close to so many hiking trails. It’s peaceful, quiet, and full of nature. Definitely will be returning soon. 10/10

Loved camping here :) beautiful scenery and clean bathrooms. No fires allowed but it was still fun to hang at the campsite. Site #1 was right next to the road but it was still beautiful and covered by trees in the heat of the day. Loved it!

My first ever camping experience and that too this beautiful campground. It is located near Kings Canyon. Make sure to have offline maps downloaded as there is no network for any carrier. Its very clean with good amenities. There is not a lot of food options in the area. The drive is just marvelous and you have the view of south Fork kings river. Easily accessible from campground as well.

Beautiful clean place, facilities are well maintained. Park rangers were going around the camp often. just make sure to bring your own soap. Although there are notes everywhere not to make wood fires some people wouldn't pay attention which is disappointing but that is on us who are visiting the sites to take care of it. As far as the campground itself it's nice by the river and clean.
