Klamath Ranch Resort / Blue Heron RV Park

Overview

Klamath Ranch Resort / Blue Heron RV Park offers a peaceful escape situated along the banks of the historic Klamath River. This destination provides a rustic ranch atmosphere that contrasts sharply with more crowded urban parks, offering a genuine connection to the Northern California wilderness. It serves as a reliable home base for those looking to immerse themselves in the rugged beauty of the region while enjoying the comfort of full-service RV sites and a slower pace of life near the border.

Location & Surroundings

Located in Hornbrook, CA, just south of the Oregon border, the park sits within a scenic canyon characterized by rolling hills and lush riparian landscapes. The proximity to the I-5 corridor makes it an exceptionally convenient stop for West Coast travelers, yet the natural barrier of the Siskiyou Mountains maintains a sense of quiet isolation. Visitors frequently enjoy viewing local wildlife, including blacktail deer and bald eagles, right from their patio chairs in this scenic river valley.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-equipped to accommodate modern travelers, featuring spacious pull-through sites that make navigation easy for larger rigs. Each site provides essential full hookups, ensuring a seamless setup process upon arrival. Guests can also utilize the on-site laundry facilities and clean shower houses which provide the comforts of home. The defining feature remains the private river access, allowing guests to enjoy the soothing sounds of the water and easy paths for morning walks along the riverbank.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find the location premier for salmon and steelhead fishing, which draws anglers from across the country during peak seasons. Beyond the river, the nearby Iron Gate Reservoir provides a sprawling space for kayaking and flat-water recreation. For those interested in regional history, the Gold Rush-era town of Yreka is just a short drive south, offering unique museums and Victorian architecture to explore during a day trip while staying at the resort.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for dedicated anglers and nature photographers who want to be just steps away from the active river ecosystem. It also serves as a perfect tranquil retreat for RVers traveling the long stretch between California and Washington who prefer a serene ranch environment over a busy commercial lot. It is best suited for travelers who value a peaceful, authentic atmosphere and the simple pleasures of mountain living while on the road.

We spent a wonderful night there passing through to the Oregon coast. We shall return for a much longer stay to fish, float, pan, and explore the whole area. So peaceful!!!

The Lazy Horse is a beautiful park. It has nice size level concrete pads, picnic tables and full hook ups. The restrooms and shower facilities were immaculate. Ron, the camp host was so welcoming and is always busy tending to the restrooms, grounds and picking up after the horses. The horses! Wow what a special treat to see these beautiful creatures roaming the grounds and coming and going from the nearby hills. Make sure to stop by the self-serve store to make a donation/purchase -for a beautiful Wild Horse Fire Brigade calendar and learn about their history. Truly a 5 star experience 🐴

We had such a nice stay at Lazy Horse RV park! We stayed at site #1, which was a level, back-in site with unobstructed views of the river. We were greeted by wild horses, who were surprisingly curious and interested in us! Clean, well maintained park with large sites, friendly people and horses, it felt remote and secluded but still only 6 miles from I-5. Will definitely return!

I’ve never stayed anywhere I enjoyed more! Sites on the Klamath River are beautiful, level surrounded by grass The wild horses come into the sites to eat and drink. Amazing! New owners are fabulous. Very nice and accommodating. Park is very clean

I was looking for a clean quiet RV park close to the CA/OR border and this park was perfect. I submitted an inquiry online and received a call a few hours later answering my questions. The sites all have large concrete pads and a picnic table. We stayed in site 7 so we got to sleep every night hearing the relaxing sounds of the river rapids. The park water pressure is good and the power is stable, the WiFi service is better the closer you are to the signal repeaters(site 7 is ok). The horses are a fixture and they seem to be on the same schedule coming down from the hillside pasture in the morning and then heading back up for the evening. The horses did not seem to mind any of the camper's dogs but all pets in my view were well behaved. The staff constantly makes the rounds and picks up after the horses to keep the grounds clean. I did peak into the bathroom and it looked clean and well kept. I dropped my son a few miles up river at the Iron Gate Bush Creek boat launch and he had a nice 90 minute float down to the Ager Rd bridge. Speaking to some of the locals it is possible to go farther up river and get a substantially longer river float. We are so happy that we found Lazy Horse RV Park and plan to visit again.
