We visited once at the end of September which was so peaceful! We took the short walk from the dark sky park to the beach front. It was definitely worth our drive down! I also came last night to see the northern lights at the dark sky preserve, and WOW. The stars and sky were gorgeous and I love having a preserve so close!

Overall Experience: Extremely Disappointing My husband and I drove a significant distance from Kokomo, Indiana, excited to spend five nights over the 4th of July weekend at this recreational area. Unfortunately, due to a series of unacceptable issues, we packed up and made the weary drive home after just two nights. Our first site was immediately problematic. It was situated on such a severe slope that we needed a ladder just to reach the front door, leaving it five feet off the ground, and access to the back of our trailer where our kitchen was located was near impossible. To make matters worse, the entire site was foul: it was heavily covered in dog waste, resulting in a terrible stench and an abundance of large flies. The logistical setup was equally poor. The hookups were ridiculously far from our rig, requiring two extension cords and spanning 60 to 70 feet. While there were closer hookups on the opposite side, we were unable to use them as a rude neighbor was using every available outlet. Finally, the firewood we purchased was delivered so late that we had already gone to bed, and it was left unattended by the road, 50 to 60 feet from our rig.  Good thing the roads were unlit or I am sure someone would have made off with our firewood. Hoping to salvage the trip, we switched to a new site the next day. While the slope and smell were resolved, we discovered there was zero shade, leaving us exposed to temperatures of 96 degrees. After one sweltering night, we were exhausted and slightly toasted by the sun. We made the decision to cut our reservation short, feeling disappointed and out of pocket. While the staff at the check in kiosk were friendly, the overall poor condition and suitability of the sites, combined with the extreme heat and lack of preparedness, meant this was simply not the space for us. We will not be returning.

We spent a weekend camping and fishing, we had a blast. We used the hiking trail from the campground to the dark zone. It was well maintained and easy to see. We hiked in the daylight but it could be possible in the dark with proper flashlights. The campground was nice with each spot spread out and decently quiet in the evening. Electric hookup only. No showers or running water but they do have a bathroom outhouse situation (vault toilet). The fishing was good. Some of the campsites offer an opportunity to fish from the campsite with direct access to the lake. Each site has a fire pit but no grate for grilling. If you want to grill over the fire you will need bring your own grate. If you found this review helpful please give a 👍.

Great place to get away. It is semi-primitive with no running water or sewer, but it does have electricity, although I had to go out and buy a 100-foot power cord due to the electrical box being so far from the main setup area. As previously mentioned, Lake Hudson is a great place to get away from it all. There are trails, a beach with picnic areas, boat launches, lots of wildlife, but most of all, serenity.

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful place. Unfortunately smelled like manure at our campsite but other than that it is a perfect place to camp and kayak.

This has become one of my favorite places in southern Michigan. It is used regularly, but does not get overly crowded. The staff keeps the grounds immaculate - and the lake is navigable for fishing and exploring, but not for waterspout like skiing, so it is quieter than some and the animals stay nearer as a result. The campground is primitive, but well-tended and there is not a better place to watch the sky (designated dark sky observatory) for a meteor shower. Bring your binoculars and bug spray and stay for an afternoon or a weekend. Your inner peace will thank you.

Got confused by the map not having the office for registration listed on it, but we had a wonderful anniversary and spent some time on water on the lake and looking at the moon in the observation park.

Beautiful camp sites.. near the water. Amazing scenery, with a dark sky observation area. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a neat rustic camping experience.

So happy to have found such a gem of park so close to home! The campgrounds are absolutely beautiful with wooded areas in-between most sites and some back up to the lake. The dark sky park is absolutely stunning!!! Hiking Trail is well maintained but not exactly clearly maked. Camped for the weekend and enjoyed the start of fall colors. Will most certainly be back soon! 5/5 would recommend. Only potential negative might be if you're tent camping the bathroom is far.
