Lake Mead NRA/Las Vegas Bay Campground

Overview

Las Vegas Bay Campground offers a rugged and scenic retreat within the vast Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Located just outside the bustling hubs of southern Nevada, this park provides a peaceful desert atmosphere for travelers who appreciate wide-open spaces and starry nights. It serves as an authentic gateway to the Mojave Desert's unique geology, vibrant sunsets, and the diverse local wildlife that thrives in this arid environment.

Location & Surroundings

Situated near the western edge of the recreation area in Boulder City, NV, the campground overlooks the historic Las Vegas Wash. The surrounding terrain is characterized by dramatic desert bluffs and sparse vegetation that creates a sense of true wilderness. While the water levels of the lake have receded from the immediate vicinity over the years, the elevated views of the distant landscape and colorful rock formations remain a significant draw for visitors seeking natural beauty.

Amenities & Park Features

This is primarily a destination for dry camping, as individual sites do not offer water, electric, or sewer hookups. However, guests have access to essential facilities including flush toilets, potable water stations, and a convenient dump station located near the entrance. Each site is generously spaced and equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, allowing for traditional campfire evenings under the vast, unpolluted Nevada sky.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the Bluffs Trail, which offers stunning panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The park is also a short drive from the historic Hoover Dam, a marvel of modern engineering that is a must-see for any traveler. For those seeking urban excitement or a break from the heat, the Las Vegas Strip is less than forty-five minutes away, providing a stark contrast to the quietude of the desert.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for self-contained RVers and boondockers who value natural beauty and tranquility over resort-style luxuries. It is a perfect choice for those who want a quiet, budget-friendly home base while exploring the recreation area or visiting the nearby cities of Henderson and Las Vegas. If you enjoy desert solitude and the simplicity of traditional camping, this location offers an unmatched sense of peace and a true escape from the daily grind.

The bad: Toilets were clogged, no lights in bathroom so bring your own, no soap. No trash cans by bathroom but dumpster not far. The good: quiet, picnic table and fire ring provided. Good views. Cell service okay. Water pumps and dumping available.

I am surprised by so many able to help but DON'T. Take the spoon out your mouth and help someone in a desperate time. Never know if your saving Grace.

An oasis in the desert. Clean bathrooms. No showers, but all sites had trees and lots of lovely flowers. I had an amazing view from my site and watched the sunrise over the desert and river below! 🌅

A solid choice if you're looking for an ordinary campground. While I liked that it was a little out of the way, it was still crowded with RV's mostly and some tents. Views are enjoyable, but not breathtaking. Recommended.
