Fallen Leaf Campground, South Lake Tahoe, CA

Our site was too far from bathrooms/showers. We were prepared for no hookups for our camp trailer, yet the site had a great pad for setup. The hosts were friendly and helpful.

I love this place. We got site 192. Verizon had 1-2 bars, and AT&T had 2 bars. Our spot was big and close to the showers and trash cans. It was only a 5-10 minute walk to the lake. We biked to Lake Tahoe, and it only took about 10 minutes to get to the sandy beach. There were a few loose dogs, but most were on a leash. We're planning to go back later this year.

Beautiful lake and great campground. Loved the beauty and serenity of this place. Very respectful campers and knowledgeable staff. Can't wait to go there again.

Nice campsite, surrounded by nature & wildlife, with decent space between sites, easy access to a lovely lake, decent amenities & no light pollution = good stargazing 🙌

We were winging it (heat was in the mid 90’s where we planned to go camping so changed last min to cooler temps of low 70’s in Lake Tahoe) and rolled up here and booked a 4 day stay (you gotta book on the app, even in the campsite) which was great as most other main lake campsites were booked.
The ladies at the check in were super helpful & got us through getting it booked (there is WiFi by the check in) and getting us hooked up 🙏

I launched a fishing kayak on the lake a few times … once from the marina at the other end of the lake … and it’s spectacular 🙌
Water is crystal clear and clean, surrounded by wooded hills, some beaches and generally stunning beauty & wildlife❣️

Been there only as a "day use", but still like it. Pretty cold lake, but with clean water. When it's not windy it would be cool to take a paddle board.

What an amazing campground! The sites are really great with some obvious ideal spots that are worth learning through experience. The facilities on the whole are well maintained and the bathrooms and showers are cleaned regularly. The water is drinkable and very good municipal water. There is a nice creek and the Fallen Lake is gorgeous and great for daytime activities. There are timid but very opportunistic bears who capitalize on lazy and naive people (as someone with experience). There aren't a lot of bugs and minimal mosquitoes. It's recommended to have a screened space to eat in to avoid Yellow Jackets.

If you need to go to town and eat at a restaurant or buy supplies, you can because of the proximity to full South Tahoe civilization.

Honestly, I can't imagine a better camping situation.

Fallen Leaf Campground is a fantastic spot in South Lake Tahoe location. Each campsite is spacious and comes with a food locker, fire pit, and road access. The campground also has exclusive access to Fallen Leaf Lake a beautiful, peaceful beach with very few people around. It’s a bit pricey at $55 per night compared to average campgrounds, but the space, amenities, and lake access make it well worth it.

This campsite was amazing! It’s just a quick 5-minute drive to Baldwin Beach, where we spent most of our days. Within the campground, it’s only a short walk to Fallen Leaf Lake, which is beautiful—perfect for a peaceful morning stroll.

The only downside was our specific site, Lot #109. It was very close to the neighboring site, and we could clearly hear their conversations. If you’re looking for more privacy, I’d recommend choosing a different lot. While most sites are relatively close together, some definitely offer more space than others.

Overall, I’d absolutely come back. Now that I’ve explored the area, I have a better idea of which lots are best for camping.

The campground was quite big, pretty popular. Many families gathered around their campfires in the evenings, creating a warm atmosphere. The nights were a bit chilly, but the mornings were bright and sunny.

The facilities were well-maintained. The restrooms were clean and easily accessible, and there was a convenient coin-operated shower facility. For just one dollar, campers could enjoy a three-minute hot shower.

According to Ranger Martin, there had never been any reports of animal attacks on humans. However, several campers reported seeing bears, as tall as an adult person when they stand up. Coyote howls were also common, especially at night. Particularly in this year, the number of coyote ramp up a lot. Campers were advised to keep a close eye on their pets and avoid any confrontations with the coyotes.

We stayed in yurt 191. The yurt is spacious and includes a chair, futon, side table and a bunk bed with a twin and full size beds. It has electricity with one lamp and a space heater. The yurt is next to a beautiful meadow and directly adjacent to the bathrooms with showers and a nearby spigot. It is a short walk to the path that leads to Fallen Leaf lake.

It's Heaven on Earth!
Campsites are spacious and beautiful and clean.  None of that -- too close to your neighbors -- situation going on here! Fallen Leaf Lake is so beautiful and fun and is a dream come true.

Loved it! Very wild and secluded. Nice restrooms and showers (4×25ç/3min). But really follow every direction regarding bears! The first night we slept there one bear openned (human style) two of our car doors looking for food (there were just some bread crumbs under my son's seat and a lip balm but seemed enough!).

Cute campsite! We stayed at #38, which ended up being pretty isolated from the rest of the campsites, which all seemed pretty squished together. Site itself was beautiful and extremely well-maintained. Bathrooms were in excellent condition - super clean, with 3-minute showers for $1 (quarters only). Would love to return again!
