Lake Texoma - COE/Johnson Creek
Overview
Johnson Creek is a sought-after Corps of Engineers campground located on the Oklahoma side of Lake Texoma. It offers a classic outdoor experience that prioritizes scenic lake views and direct access to one of the largest reservoirs in the South. Unlike high-density commercial resorts, this park provides a peaceful atmosphere that is especially popular during the peak spring and summer fishing seasons. It serves as a well-maintained base for travelers looking to immerse themselves in the region's natural beauty and tranquility.
Location & Surroundings
Located just west of Durant, Oklahoma, the park is situated on the northeast shores of Lake Texoma. The environment is characterized by rolling hills and thick groves of hardwood trees, which offer excellent shade for many of the campsites. Because it is a federally managed area, the surroundings remain largely undeveloped, preserving the natural lakeside habitat. Its convenient location near the Texas-Oklahoma border makes it an easy stop for regional travelers seeking a quiet retreat away from city noise.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features over 50 RV sites, many of which are equipped with 30 and 50-amp electrical hookups and water connections. A standout feature is the large multi-lane boat ramp, providing easy entry for those looking to get out on the water. Other practical amenities include modern shower facilities, a playground for families, and a centrally located dump station. Many sites also feature concrete pads and heavy-duty picnic tables, ensuring a comfortable and level setup for various types of recreational vehicles.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Boating and fishing are the heart of the experience here, as the lake is a premier destination for striped bass fishing. For a change of pace, the nearby Chickasaw Pointe Golf Club offers a challenging course with beautiful views of the water. Visitors can also head into Durant to visit the Choctaw Casino and Resort for world-class dining and gaming. Nature lovers will appreciate the proximity to local wildlife management areas, which are perfect for afternoon birdwatching, hiking, or wildlife photography.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is an excellent fit for boaters and fishing enthusiasts who value quick access to the water and spacious, wooded sites. It is also a great choice for families looking for a budget-friendly getaway with plenty of room for kids to explore the outdoors. My Nana took me here so I could photograph the lake. I did not stay the night. She and my grandfather have stayed here several times in the past. It's a beautiful lake, great views, and plenty of camping spots.

This is a beautiful park sitting on Lake Texoma. The sites are spacious and unique due to the windy roads and allows for wonderful views on the lake from every site. We are in site #34. The website read this site is a 50 amp but when we got here we found it is a 30 amp. This time of year, we have been ok not running everything needed and the site is very shady. We will come back again and try another site.

Unfortunately a pleasant experience turned into a conflict with a Mowing Lady TODAY That Hit My Vehicle Several Times With Chunks of Tree, Rocks, Dirt ect... I was currently sitting in a shaded spot waiting on my husband to make it back across the lake, after the 3rd or 4th time of her hitting the vehicle, I finally couldn't stand it I got out of my husband's truck to confront her... Letting her know she's hit the Vehicle Several times- her 1st words to me we're, I didn't hit anything immediately defensive and rude I just wanted her to realize what she did, she then decided to threaten me being where I was waiting and began to harass me about leaving now an how she's calling in on me also taking pictures of my tags! I was completely baffled at the situation, I asked for her name during conflict and supervisors names what company, her an the other man Mowing proceeded to watch Me pull to the water an wait on my husband.... (ITS PRETTY PATHETIC ALL I WANT WAS AN APOLOGY AN SOME ACKNOWLEDGEMENT) For what she did she had no remorse and chose to be defensive, rude, an disrespectful.....

We didn't go to camp, but the campground is clean, and the spaces seem to have plenty of room for RV sized vehicles. We got a day pass to paddleboard. The water in this cove is calm and has a good bit of shoreline behind the wake bouys. We launched on the side opposite of the dock and enjoyed the afternoon in the water. Day pass is only $5.
