Lakeside Beach

Overview

Lakeside Beach State Park offers a serene getaway on the southern shore of Lake Ontario in Waterport, NY. This destination is celebrated for its panoramic lake views and refreshing summer breezes that sweep across the well-manicured grounds. While the park is named for its proximity to the water, it is characterized more by its rolling green spaces and expansive skies than sandy shorelines. It provides a peaceful retreat for those looking to enjoy the natural beauty of the Great Lakes region without the hustle of more commercialized tourist spots.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in rural Orleans County, the park is nestled within a landscape of orchards and farmland, providing a quiet atmosphere far from city noise. The park sits atop a rocky bluff, offering elevated views of the vast, blue horizon of Lake Ontario. The surrounding area is famous for its agricultural heritage, with many local farm stands offering seasonal produce throughout the summer and fall. The proximity to Oak Orchard Creek makes it a prime spot for those who enjoy being near the water, while the lakefront setting ensures that spectacular sunsets are a nightly occurrence for visitors.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features 274 spacious campsites, many equipped with electric hookups to accommodate modern RVs. Travelers will find essential facilities including clean restrooms, hot showers, and a convenient dump station for self-contained units. For recreation, the park boasts the Shore Winds Disc Golf Course, an 18-hole professional-grade course that winds through the woods and along the lake shore. Additionally, families can enjoy multiple playgrounds, paved paths for biking, and several miles of hiking trails that explore the diverse terrain and wooded areas of the park.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Anglers often flock to this region for world-class fishing, particularly at the nearby Oak Orchard Marine Park, which is renowned for its salmon and trout runs. A short drive allows visitors to explore the historic Erie Canal or visit the picturesque Point Breeze Lighthouse. For a more famous excursion, Niagara Falls is located approximately an hour to the west, making this park an excellent home base for day trips to the falls. Locally, the surrounding country roads are perfect for scenic drives through the heart of Western New York’s fruit belt.

Who This Park Is Best For

Lakeside Beach is an ideal choice for nature lovers and families who prioritize space, quiet, and scenery over resort-style luxuries. It is particularly well-suited for RVers who enjoy a state park environment with plenty of room between campsites for a sense of privacy. Because of the highly-rated disc golf course and nearby fishing opportunities, it is also a favorite for outdoor sports enthusiasts. If you are looking for a relaxing experience that combines the tranquility of the lake with the charm of rural New York, this location fits the bill perfectly.

Lake Side State Park next to Lake Ontario is great place to go camping, We enjoy the peaceful sunsets, riding our bikes on the well paved roads, I will definitely come back and camp there again x

I haven't been camping in nearly 30 years, so this is my first time in a long while. I really enjoyed being out here; the place is peaceful and lovely. However, my wife mentioned that the ladies' room was somewhat messy. The only thing the location lacks is a beach, which is fine with me since I don't swim, although the kids do. definitely gonna come back again.

Nice clean campground. Bathrooms were very dated but mostly clean though the floors stayed wet. The showers were good but the force of water through the nozzle created a mist that filled the whole bath house so everything stayed wet the week I was there. Not much to do at the park but plenty to do within about an hour. See Niagara Falls. Bike/hike along Lake Erie. Visit Rochester. Swim at the beaches of other parks within 30 minutes. Convenient to shopping and restaurants. There is an awesome farmers marked and ice cream shop very nearby. There was water throughout the park but none at the dump to fill holding tanks

Lakeside Beach is a quiet and relaxing spot, perfect if you’re looking for peace and beautiful views. There’s not much to do unless you bring a picnic or something to keep you occupied, but the lack of crowds makes it a great place to unwind and enjoy the scenery.
