Lassen Volcanic National Park is located in Northern California and is home to the Manzanita Lake Mineral Campground. This campground is situated on the shore of Manzanita Lake, a beautiful lake surrounded by lush forests and the majestic Lassen Peak. The campground offers a variety of activities, including fishing, swimming, and boating. The lake is also a great spot for bird watching, as many species of waterfowl and other birds can be seen in the area. Lassen Volcanic/Manzanita Lake

We had a 3 night reservation in mid-October.  We decided to cancel our reservation a few days before the free cancellation date due to the government shut down.  We didn’t know whether the campground will be open and there was no update on the website.  We also found out that they turn off the water in the campground starting mid-October.  We stayed in another private RV campground that was 15 minutes away.  We visited the campground when we were there, and it would have been nice to stay inside the park since it is a long drive to get to the trails.  Manzanita Lake is beautiful.

Large and well-kept campground, good base for exploring Lassen Park. Just heads up that some sites are quite close to one another with no privacy, so try to book early to get a more private spot. Also recommend walking the trail around the lake for some unreal views!

My wife and I stayed there, October 16th and 17th During the government shut down. When we got to the gate, there was no way to pay so we proceeded to the campground. Went through loop B and found a site and set up and didn’t go over to see the camp host because we didn’t know she was there. I had planned on going and Finding a way to pay after being set up by means of the iron ranger or other means. About an hour after getting there and set up the Camp host knocked on our door and I came out to greet her. She immediately was nasty and calling me a thief and a squatter and that she was going to call the Ranger. I tried to explain our situation and she didn’t want to hear my explanation at all. The rudest camp host I  have ever dealt with. I actually said “ you could be nice” and she said no no no and stormed away. My wife went back to her to try to explain the situation and she also yelled at my wife so we walked away. The Ranger came by about 30 minutes later and I explained the situation and he gave us a warning and said that there have been squatters Lately since the shutdown and I said I had no intention of not paying for our campsite. The worst absolute experience ever at a national park. This camp host ruined it.

Simple but beautiful campground.  Use Recreation.gov to reserve a site.  If you dont have reservation you still need to log into. The site to claim a spot.  Fortunately there is wifi at the visitor center (not at the park store).

Keep in mind that there is no water available.  Need to bring your own.

Also, no cell service but campground is sparsely tree covered.  We were able to use Starlink just fine at our site.

Lots of hiking nearby including a beautiful trail right from camp.

Great campsite with clean bathrooms. They do have showers you can use for $5 per person. Nice camp-store as well with necessities, local Lassen wine bottles, and some hot food.

They charge $30 on top of your reservation and it's pointless because it's not enforced if you come when the rangers aren't at the gate. I believe they leave at 5pm so take the time to do something else, and come back to avoid the fee. You can also come earlier when the ranger takes a break but not sure what time.
The store is expensive and overpriced. Definitely haggle for a fair price. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING AS IS.

So many bullet sized ants and mosquitos so bring repellant.
Camps are too close for my liking compared to other parks.
Camp site restrooms are terrible so use the restrooms at the visitor center.

Stayed at a cabin at this campground. This is a really nice, well ran campground,  there's a camp store,  you also can get gas there and take a shower. It's a beautiful area with close access to hiking trails,  I recommend the longer but beautiful Manzanita Creek Trail. The trailhead is at the very end of loop D. I would definitely camp here again.

So the reason we made a big investment in solar and battery was to be able to enjoy national parks and forests. Was shocked when making reservations last month to see openings here at Lassen so I grabbed a 3 day spot. But disappointed when we got here that everything was closed! The store, the showers, the bathrooms, the gas station, the dump station, everything. This is apparently the only campground in the park still open. Even the entrance gates are staffed only during the day on weekends. All the water is turned off to the campground, even the fire hydrants. And annoyingly when we asked at the visitor center about water they didn't know all the water had been shut off. Why didn't they know? And the pay phones are turned off! On top of that there is no cell service in the park, I get limited satellite, and tree canopy is so thick I only manage to add about 17 amps of power each day. So we couldn't use tv or microwave or rice cooker, and limited our internet to 2 hours per day. Battery somehow lasted 3 days. Campfires are permitted but you have to use your own water to drown it so there were several unattended fires after people left. The camp hosts are gone as is much of the park staff. Here 3 days and only one official vehicles ever drove thru the campground. Only twice in three days did I even see a law enforcement ranger vehicle. But the first time it was being driven by two unarmed naturalists out taking pictures of birds at Kings Creek. Don't go up to a law enforcement ranger vehicle and expect help. And no way to call 911 in an emergency, very unsafe. Every site says reserved but Sat/Sun they were only about 80% occupancy and that dropped to 10% by Monday. You could just come into the park and grab a camp site and stay several days without paying and no one would notice. No one is checking. You have to pay online but there is no cell service or wifi so you have to leave the park and drive down the highway several miles to get signal to pay! You can't pay at the visitors center. We camped at Manzanita Lake in a Fifth Wheel.

Would definitely come back! Had running water, flushing toilets, showers, a small convenience store. And omg, please have some ice cream here, so delicious! They had plenty of firewood to sell. Bathrooms were clean. Showers were $5 per person & you can use as much as you can. Beware that warm water runs out quick. Small walk to the lake. Don’t forget to watch the bats fly around the lake right after sunset. Recommend by a fried, & I’m glad he shared this w us! Nice campground and would book again!

I really want to love this campground, but the flies 🪰 are overwhelming—far more than I expected. So we ended up staying for just one night instead of two we planned.

On the plus side, the campsites are well spaced out so it doesn’t feel too crowded and you can park right next to your site. While there are no restaurants within Lassen National Park, check out a nearby camper store with almost everything you need, including coffee, sandwiches, and all supplies (see more in vids!). A fuel pump, shower and laundry room next to it.

Keep in mind that the restrooms have no lights at night so be sure to bring your own headlamp; it can get totally dark. There’s also a dishwashing station with good water pressure and drinking water dispenser.

Came to get away from the heat in the valley ,and enjoy a day of hiking ,and the great out doors.
