Very nice overnight stay. It was our first time visiting. We just needed the one night stay. It was very late in the season, they were getting ready to close down for the winter season. Would definitely come back and spend a week.

Very friendly staff, clean campground. My only disappointment was the seasonal creek was dry . I know they have no control over that other then maybe stating that on website. I.paid more for creekside site not knowing it was dried up. Other then that very nice experience!

The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. The park was quiet and really pretty sitting in the bottom of a canyon. Getting to the park from the highway was interesting, 3.5 miles of windy narrow road. Not a problem, just unexpected and kind of exciting. The park is not a resort, so expect small rv’s, tents, and groups in cabins. I am not saying we won’t stay there again, but probably not. It was close enough to Durango for us and on the highway we were leaving on. We spent 3 nights there, so we did experience the park.

The price was a bit high for the amenities, but the location was excellent (10 min to Durango & 25 min to Mesa Verde). The sites and bathhouses were clean, but narrow and a bit short. We just barely fit our 38 foot travel trailer into the longer full hookup spot with our F250 parked at an angle. I think we might’ve just expected more from an HTR location for this price.

The Gonzo Hunter

The Gonzo Hunter rarely gives 5 stars but when a place deserves it like this one then I give them freely! I can't say enough good things about this place (besides it being owned now by a corporation & no longer family run), but let's go down the list. First off, the campground mgrs Jessie & Tyler were spectacular, so friendly & efficient. The grounds themselves were immaculate & old growth shady trees ensured that you had shade for at least some part of the day in every campsite. There is a small fenced dog park for those traveling with dogs, the pool was so clean, refreshing & amazing, & the campground itself was so quiet at night since it is tucked up away on a dead end road about 5 or so miles from downtown Durango, so also very conveniently located. I extended my stay to stay the whole week instead of just the 3 initial days I was going to stay because this place is so worth it! You can tell it has been an established campground for decades, formerly the Lightner Creek Campground. There is also a cute playground for the kiddos, clean bath & shower houses (2), laundry facilities & awesome cabins of different sizes to accommodate couples or families. Should you decide to stay here you will NOT be disappointed!!
