Little Girl's Point County Park
Overview
Little Girl's Point County Park is a hidden gem tucked along the rugged coastline of Lake Superior in Gogebic County. This park offers a serene escape for RV travelers who value natural beauty over commercial frills. It is widely recognized for its unique geological history and the peaceful atmosphere that comes from being situated right at the edge of the world’s largest freshwater lake. Travelers often visit to reconnect with nature and witness some of the most spectacular views in the Upper Peninsula.
Location & Surroundings
Located roughly 18 miles north of Ironwood, MI, the park sits on a high bluff overlooking a distinctive pebble-strewn beach. The surrounding area is characterized by dense northern forests and the dramatic, rocky shoreline typical of the Lake Superior region. Its proximity to the Wisconsin border makes it a convenient yet secluded stop for those exploring the Great Lakes. The scenic overlook provides a panoramic vantage point that highlights the vastness of the water and the ancient rock formations below.
Amenities & Park Features
This park offers a traditional camping experience with modern conveniences for RVers. Most sites provide electric hookups, making it comfortable for various rig sizes. While the park maintains a rustic charm with vault toilets and hand-pumped water, it features a spacious picnic area and a playground for families. The most sought-after feature is the easy access to the beachfront, where campers can spend hours searching for treasures or listening to the rhythmic sound of the waves hitting the stones.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw at Little Girl's Point is agate hunting, as the shoreline is famous for these semi-precious stones. Beyond the beach, visitors can take a short drive to the Black River Harbor Recreation Area to explore multiple waterfalls or hike segments of the North Country Trail. The nearby Porcupine Mountains offer extensive wilderness trekking, while the town of Ironwood provides local dining and historical tours of the region’s iron mining past.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for nature enthusiasts and rock hounds who prefer a quiet, scenic environment over a bustling resort setting. It is perfect for RVers who enjoy dry camping or need only basic electric services while they explore the outdoors. Families and solo travelers looking for stunning sunsets and a slower pace of life will find this park to be one of the most memorable stops on their Upper Peninsula itinerary.

What a great camp ground! We camped right on Lake Superior. Our site had a great view. It was large. It was warm enough to swim and if you’re looking for rocks this a great place for it. We found a few small yooperlites.

Beautiful location for a day visit. We did not camp and don't plan to. The sites are a bit close for our liking.

Little Girls Point is our favorite spot for camping. This is a family friendly place. We do some rock and Yooperlite hunting, and loads of relaxing by the waves. I’ve seen surfing, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarders, side by sides, motorcycles, fisherman and hikers all sharing the space and enjoying nature. We ride the trails that are surrounding the area for daytime fun. There is a fire pit, electricity (on some sites) a picnic area, a playground, and a gorgeous view of Lake Superior. We go into Ironwood for supplies. It’s maybe 10 minutes from LGP. There’s plenty of shopping and restaurants when we don’t feel like cooking. Kwik Trip, Super One, cool shops downtown, are all easy and convenient. 4NORTH

Decades ago, this was a yearly summer destination for us to go swimming in Lake Superior (it's just as cold as I remembered, lol). This was my first trip back up here in around 30 years. It's still absolutely gorgeous! The park is a good size, very nice, and has several amenities like shelters, grills, picnic tables, restrooms, a volleyball court, playground areas, and some fantastic views of (the ocean, lol) Lake Superior. There is plenty of parking, and I had no issues finding a spot. Be sure to check out the historical sign at the parking lot, you don't see many carved like it anywhere. The beach here goes on forever, and there are tons of cool rocks to find. The waves rolling up and back make for an incredibly relaxing stroll along the shore. There were quite a few seagulls people-watching, hoping for someone to drop a snack. This is such a nice place to spend an afternoon. I forgot how much I missed coming here after being away for so long. I highly recommend visiting, and be sure to check out some of the waterfalls while you're in the area!

Unbelievably calm day on Lake Superior. Great camp sites, easily accessible for any rig. Beach access is great. Extension cord for electric hookup is recommended.
