Our favorite campground near Durango! Camp host (Chad) is a great guy!

This review is based on me driving through and not staying a night here. The road in is about 5 miles off the 550 and is a little rough and windy but doable with a trailer..this place was empty except a camp host who never came out of his camper to acknowledge us and 2 tent campers that were staying days beyond the date on the post. It looked a little sketchy so I would not come back here to stay but check it out YouTube to see if you'd like it. It may suit your needs

Great place, pretty quiet except for ATV traffic on dirt road during the day. Price is $18/night in 2025 but no water! For that price, they should at least haul in a 500 gallon tank. Yes, I realize the USFS info page does say no water but honestly, what exactly is the $18 paying for?

Really well kept campground, nice campsites that offer good privacy. Direct access to Hermosa Creek trail. Great place to camp with the family and do some riding.

This campground was great. The host was super friendly and checked on the campsites often, which made me feel safe. The toilets were shockingly clean, always had TP and actually smelled pretty good. Campsites are $18 a night. I arrives about 11:30 am on a Friday and there were about half of the sites to choose from, but it did get crowded later in the evening. The only complaint I had was that someone was playing music somewhere across the campground, literally all night long. There was a pretty annoying bass playing until roughly 3 am. Not sure what that was about. The road up to the site was gravel, but relatively smooth and an easy drive from town. I will definitely stay again!

Beautiful campground. Lovely, private sites. Pit toilet, no water available. Lots of bird life.
