Stayed Sept 28 to October 1st 2025 Site #1, no water or electricity. Cellular, T-Mobile LTE to 5G Awesome view of Lake Superior as long as no one is on site 15. Shower/Bath, about 100-300 feet depending on how you walk. Newer facilities and clean, separate showers from the shitters. Staff, 5-stars. Firewood $5 cash only, did not burn well and I didn’t have my moisture meter to measure. Aurora was out every night after 10pm. Found a few Yooperlites on the beach area.

I only got to go here once and for a short time, but it was worth it. I came here to watch the sunset over Lake Superior and I was not the only one. Many other people were there to capture the beautiful scene but it was in no way over crowded. The sunset was beautiful and I wish I could see it over and over again.

Although some sites are better than others, we had a great time camping at this state park. Electric hookups are available only at some sites that are on the concrete. Water spigots throughout. Great showers and restrooms. Depending on your location, it might take 5-10 min to walk there..unless you want to use vault toilets. Perfect for bike riding. Beautiful beach if you enjoy rock picking. Just be aware of mosquitos and flies. If you don't have a net cover, eating outside might be painful!

McLain State Park is one of those places where you can truly just relax and have fun, enjoying the simple beauty of nature. I spent my time mostly on the beach, and it was genuinely such a great experience. The sand was clean, soft, and perfect for sitting down and enjoying the views of Lake Superior, which were beautiful and calming. One of the best parts about this park is that it’s dog-friendly, so I was able to bring my dog along and watch them run around, play in the sand, and just enjoy the day as much as I did. It made the experience even more special to see other dogs having fun, and the friendly environment made it easy to let your pet enjoy the outdoors safely. There’s something so peaceful about being able to sit down on the sand and listen to the waves while enjoying the fresh air without feeling crowded or rushed. The park itself is well-maintained, and there’s plenty of space to find a quiet spot to yourself if you want to read, have a picnic, or just take in the scenery. I appreciated how accessible it was and how easy it was to just show up, find a spot, and immediately start enjoying the day. It’s a place I would love to visit again anytime I need a simple escape into nature, and it’s perfect for anyone looking for a dog-friendly beach where you can truly unwind. If you’re looking for a peaceful, beautiful spot to spend a day, McLain State Park is an excellent choice that will leave you refreshed.

Beautiful state park with campsites located right along the lake. Not many hiking trails, but plenty of nature to see in the area while you stay there. You’re able to walk the beach to see a lighthouse and there are lots of unique rocks along the shoreline. Nice facilities - flushing toilets, running warm water, and open campsites. (If you’re hoping for a more private campsite, this may not be the best place to look.)
