We started staying in more campgrounds this trip and this was our first in medicine bow. Nice quiet camp with breath taking views. We got rained out our 3rd day. Hiked up to South gap lake with our dogs. Trail was pretty busy but great temps. Will come back again to do some more hiking.

Absolutely amazing campsite, one of the best FS campsites I've visited. Just opened in July starting with first come first serve and still had snow in the campground. However temperature were gorgeous, shorts and a T-shirt the whole time and barely needed a sweater ever. There's tons to do around the campground and in the area. Lots of alpine lakes around the area. Hiking trails to tour around the lakes or go up to the summit. Still some snow you have to cross on the trails at this time of year but it was melting fast. The hike to the top of medicine bow was a little sketchy at the very top with snow so I just scrambled to the side to get to the top of the saddle for the view but didn't bother with crossing all the snow for the actual summit. The lakes by the campground are great for a little put around in the kayak and some people were fishing there also. Lots to explore if you have OHVs or dirt bikes although not all the roads were open yet because of snow. Water hand pumped in campsite but no hookup for a hose for RVs, trash cans and bathrooms available. Definitely a must visit, and one to remember for the future.

Beautiful location and the camp host was one of the nicest people I've met on a trip. The bathrooms are just vault toilets, so pack & prepare accordingly. Also keep weather in mind, as nighttime temps can drop significantly at this altitude. The campground is a short walk from the lakes and several trailheads, and the views are incredible.

Camped here the 23rd of September, Brrrr!! At nearly 11,000 feet it gets COLD at night. Also, VERY windy, I was afraid my cheap little tent might break or shred. Thankfully it held together. Near as we could figure it was about 10 degrees the night we were there! However, well worth it, especially if you are prepared. The scenery is SPECTACULAR!! Great short hikes right out of the campground, with an abundance of alpine lakes. There are not very many campsites, but they are well laid out. Flat parking, table, fire ring, and tent pad. Toilets are vault, but clean and essentially odor free. The dirt road in from the Hwy is in relatively good condition, just a few potholes.

5 Stars for the views, because they’re breath-taking. There’s LOTS of beautiful flora and fauna too, which is pretty cool! 3 Stars because the signs aren’t helpful for hiking/very informative for the trails. The trash cans were all also overflowing. I would still absolutely recommend this place and I love it, but it needs a little more upkeep.

Gorgeous location for a campground. Full disclosure we didn't stay here. It was closed when we first arrived at Medicine Bow, so we dispersed camped off a forest road. We typically disperse camp anyways for seclusion and allowing the dog off-leash but would have been happy staying at this campground. It opened and we stopped by to look at it when we did the Medicine Bow Peak trail. It wasn't terribly large. The sites can be a little tight for larger trailers. There were a couple pit toilets and one pump was open for water. I mean pump. It was a two person jump for us to fill up our large water containers we camp with. The water was full of sediment but I didn't see anything that noted it was not potable. We just used it for wash water and the dog so it wasn't a concern but important to note.

Busy area on the weekend, but beautiful location, sites laege enough for small groups, nearby hikes, and great views.
