Overview

Mesa Campground provides a welcoming, high-altitude retreat for RVers traveling through the stunning landscapes of Western Colorado. As a family-operated destination, this park emphasizes a clean and comfortable environment for those looking to explore the Gunnison Valley. It serves as a reliable home base that balances highway accessibility with the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

Location & Surroundings

Located along Highway 50, the campground sits just a few miles west of the city of Gunnison. This strategic location offers the perfect blend of rural seclusion and urban convenience, allowing guests to stock up on supplies in town before heading into the wilderness. The landscape features dramatic mesa formations and sagebrush hills, with the Gunnison River flowing nearby. It is a prime starting point for visiting the Curecanti National Recreation Area and its sprawling waters.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is designed to accommodate a variety of setups, offering full hookup sites with level gravel pads and manicured grassy areas. Unlike many high-desert parks, you will find mature trees that provide essential shade during the summer months. Practical features include:

  • Spacious pull-thru sites that are specifically big-rig friendly.
  • Clean restroom facilities and guest laundry services.
  • Dedicated pet-friendly areas and reliable Wi-Fi for travelers.

The park maintains a peaceful atmosphere, making it easy to relax after a long day on the road.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water enthusiasts will appreciate being close to Blue Mesa Reservoir, Colorado's largest body of water, which is famous for world-class salmon and trout fishing. A short drive further west leads to the breathtaking Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, offering some of the steepest cliffs in North America. For those who prefer land-based adventures, the area is a haven for mountain biking and hiking. Historic downtown Gunnison also offers local boutiques, craft breweries, and dining options.

Clean, spacious cabin! Close to lake and nice little campground.

Friendly staff who were unfortunately overwhelmed with repairs. Facilities are in disrepair, multiple water leaks caused all water to be shut off to bathrooms and our site for a day. Hot water heater in restrooms and showers out for a day. Staff didn’t answer phone (probably because they spent most of the day around the campground addressing issues). Go to Mountain Time RV Park instead, it’s locally owned, managed and well run.

Come stay with us, we are close to Gunnison. We are also close to river access and Blue Mesa Reservoir is right around 5 or 6 miles away. It'll be a Blast this summer.

We camped there as we were traveling through the area. Good parking for your camper and clean bathrooms. We parked our 30ft Arctic Fox fifth wheel with no problem. Friendly staff and convenient to Downtown Gunnison.

Had a great weekend stay here with our RV. The campground has RV spots, a tent area and cabins. The campground was clean and quiet. The tent area located at the center of the campground was especially nice with the grass shade from the large trees. The campground provided live music around the campfire and s’mores on the Friday evening and was a nice surprise. They also had a great little pancake breakfast on Sunday, which was perfect for getting an early start and avoiding breakfast dishes. Overall we had a great stay and would recommend for a future visit.
