Military Park Destin Army Infantry Center Rec Area (Fort Benning)
Overview
The Destin Army Recreation Area, a facility operated by Fort Moore (formerly Fort Benning), serves as a premier getaway for military service members and their families. Situated on 15 acres along the beautiful Choctawhatchee Bay, this gated facility offers a secure and peaceful environment for those who serve. Unlike the crowded commercial resorts nearby, this park maintains a community-focused atmosphere where RV travelers can unwind while enjoying some of the best waterfront access in the Florida Panhandle.
Location & Surroundings
Located in the heart of Destin, Florida, the park sits directly on the Choctawhatchee Bay, providing a unique coastal experience. While it is not directly on the Gulf of Mexico, the famous white-sand beaches are just a few minutes away. The surrounding area is a blend of tranquil bay waters and the vibrant energy of a world-class vacation destination. Guests often enjoy the stunning sunsets over the water and the convenient access to the legendary Emerald Coast scenery that makes this region famous.
Amenities & Park Features
The RV park features well-maintained sites equipped with full hookups, including 30/50-amp electricity, water, and sewer. Many sites offer concrete pads for easier leveling. Beyond the campsites, the park boasts a private marina where guests can rent pontoon boats or jet skis to explore the bay. On-site facilities also include a refreshing swimming pool, a splash park for children, a fishing pier, and a fitness center. For added convenience, the park provides clean laundry facilities and a general store.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Staying here places you moments away from the HarborWalk Village, where you can find waterfront dining, shopping, and seasonal festivals. Anglers will appreciate Destin's reputation as the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village, with numerous charter boats departing nearby. For a day of nature, visit Henderson Beach State Park to walk along the quartz-sand dunes. Families often enjoy local water parks and dolphin-watching cruises that navigate the clear coastal waters just outside the park gates.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal choice for military families and retirees seeking an affordable, high-quality vacation in a popular tourist corridor. It is perfect for those who travel with their own boats or enjoy water-based recreation, thanks to the on-site marina and boat slips. If you value a secure environment with a sense of camaraderie among fellow service members, this facility offers a quieter, more disciplined alternative to the high-traffic commercial RV parks in the Destin area.

Wonderful stay at DestinArmy Recreation Area, pool, splash pad and fishing pier what more could you ask for. Walked to the waterfront docks and had a great lunch and entertainment at the Edge Sky Bar. Definitely coming back

This is our 2nd stay here. We were told about this place last year (2024) around this same time, while staying at the Emerald Grande. We came over and took a tour, and extended our stay in Destin, right here for the remainder of our vacation. I must say, the staff here are more than exceptional, kind, and inviting. Though it’s look, is not of a 5-star Hotel/Resort, it provided exactly what we needed.. Peace & Quiet, Relaxing, Family-Friendly, Great (as-needed) room service and amenities.. a great place avoid all of the late night noise & shenanigans. Most all Active Duty, Retired, and Veterans that we encountered, were also friendly and communicative. The DOWNER is, the area is pet friendly, so you may end up in a room, and find pet fur all over your clothing after sitting on the beds (especially that little throw that they have on the beds) and sweeping up a lot of fur as well; so if you have allergies, as I do, take your own cleaning supplies to tidy up before getting settling in. And their washers and dryers are old and some are inoperable; but they plan to go up on their prices, so hopefully that means newer or replacement ones.

Great location, nice little one room kitchenette, beds comfortable, right across from the pool. The only drawback was our upstairs neighbors making lots of noise constantly walking around. I think the ceilings are very thin. But everything else was okay. I recommend this establishment for location and helping us veterans price wise.

4.5✨ power kept popping at the shore power for our 30amp camper. You're pretty close to other campers. Love the ability to rent boats, sad the splash pad is broken but it's super neat! And the fact the splash pad and pool over look the bay is amazing

I love everything about this location. We have been coming here for years and it is always a great stay. The location is close to the harbor walk and crab island. I love the fishing pier and boat ramp that offered rentals. The rooms vary in size and there will be one to fit your needs, but always book nearly a year in advance (crazy I know. That’s how popular this spot is). The patio infront of the hotels is the best spot for the sunset photo and hanging out with the family.
