Morro Strand SB Campgrounds

The photo is slightly deceiving, because you can't actually see the ocean from the campground because of some small sand dunes. It's easy to get to the beach on the paths, though, and you can hear it. We've stayed in nicer campgrounds, but being on the beach is really nice. The staff were friendly, bathrooms are decently clean, just aging and needing a little work. All in all, we plan to return. There's a nice dog beach just north, within walking distance. No fire pits at full hookup sites.

We have a little mom&pop camper van and don't require hookups so we always try to get a spot that backs up to the ocean. We can usually find one or 2 nights but if you're hoping for a full hookup spot, you'll need to try 6 months in advance. We've been coming for years and lately it seems nearly impossible to get a week regardless of the time of year. BUT... if you're lucky enough to get a spot you'll love the campground. There is also a city trolly transit stop just up on the road that'll take you into town for a fun day of shopping. Not sure how late they run but I know we've used it at dinner time as well.

This was so much fun camping at the beach!! They have picnic benches and a fire pit, we had s'mores and hot dogs!!! The employees are very friendly and are always there when you need a hand or have a question. Will definitely go again!! 😁

I love staying here for the full RV Hookups. MOST CA State Campgrounds do not have full hookups. Dry camping is closer to the beach. Negatives: Dogs not allowed due to bird nests. There is a dog beach nearby. No shower facilities. Squirrels and seagulls are bold and excessive! Do not feed them!

Fantastic Location and Scenery, Great for Beach Lovers! We stayed at Morro Strand RV Park in early March and really enjoyed our time. The location is hard to beat, offering direct access to the beautiful beach for long walks – my wife and I loved strolling along the shore, taking in the fantastic landscape. Our full hookup RV site was reasonably comfortable and suited our needs well. It's important for fellow dog owners to know that dogs aren't permitted directly on the main beach. However, the park does provide a designated path near the end (on the left) that can be used as a dog run area. While it's appreciated to have somewhere for the dog to stretch its legs, we found the path itself a little bit boring. The park offers both full hookup sites and primitive beachfront sites. We opted for full hookups this time, but the views from those beachfront spots were incredible. They are primitive (no hookups), but we're already planning our next visit and thinking about booking one of those for a week to fully enjoy the oceanfront experience. Having a dump station conveniently located within the park makes the primitive option more feasible. Overall, it's a wonderful place to stay due to the stunning location and beach access.

Love being right on the beach listening to the ocean at night. Very peaceful spot. Unfortunately dogs cannot go on the beach right there at the campground. But if you walk up the road a little bit there's a great dog park on the beach. Highly recommend it

Dry beachside camping. Really beautiful. The sound of the waves at night was amazing.. They do have full hookup spots for $50.00. But we opted for beachside. No Showers but you can get into the other state park a couple of miles away with your pass and take a shower if you want. Low tide is fun for the kids with all the creatures.

Great spot basically ON the beach. Amazing sunsets. Great walks on the beach. Its delightfully cold and windy so be prepared with clothing layers and hot coco. Unless its summer, then be prepared for slightly less clothing and hot coco. Morro Bay typically sits around 62 degrees year round. October usually sees migrating whales and there's elephant seals birthing on the beaches just north of San Simeon up the highway 1 from December through January? I'm not sure of the full season up there but it is amazing and noisy. Basically its amazing.

Other state parks are maintained better. State facilities are underfunded, and I am not sure how funds are distributed, but we stay at state parks all the time and this one wasn't the best. Staff was nice. No showers here, not even outdoor to rinse off sand. A couple of spigots available. Spaces are small, only trailers/RVs Les than 24 feet fit unless it is a hook up site and then it fits 40ft or less. Some people shared the double sided sites with friends and double parked on either side of the median to accommodate their much larger RVs, but you would have book both sites at the same time (e.g. site 42 and 44). Both have a space on both sides of the median, but one side can double park a large RV in 42 and 44, while an extra vehicle or another rig can park on the opposite side of the median to make one large camp site. This beach is good for kids due to the gentle slope, mellow waves and lots of sand. Great area to walk on the beach as well. Needs more signage to encourage people to stay out of the preserve area, some people just ignore it. Lots of nearby restaurants, a brewery (3 stacks and a rock), pizza and a grocery. Gas station, ace hardware and propane refill as well. Good place to stay, but figure out the showers before you go.
