Mount Nebo
Overview
Mount Nebo State Park offers a unique elevated experience in the heart of the Arkansas River Valley near Dardanelle. As one of Arkansas's original state parks, it blends historic CCC architecture with modern outdoor recreation. The park is situated on a plateau that rises significantly above the surrounding landscape, providing a cooler climate and refreshing breezes. Visitors are greeted by a serene atmosphere where the natural beauty of the Ozarks meets the winding Arkansas River below.
Location & Surroundings
The park is located just outside Dardanelle, AR, atop the 1,350-foot Mount Nebo. Reaching the summit requires navigating Highway 155, which is famous for its 14 hairpin turns. Because of these tight switchbacks, the park has a strictly enforced length limit for trailers and motorhomes. The reward for the climb is an incredible vantage point over the Arkansas River Valley, with panoramic views that stretch for miles across the forested horizon.
Amenities & Park Features
RVers will find a well-maintained campground that includes specific sites designed for larger trailers, though size limits apply. The park provides several key features for a comfortable stay:
- Full hookup campsites including sewer and 50-amp power connections.
- A seasonal swimming pool, playground, and modern bathhouse facilities.
- Direct access to the Rim Trail, providing nearly constant vistas of the valley.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will love the Monument Trails, a world-class mountain biking system that winds through the park's rugged terrain. For those who prefer water activities, Lake Dardanelle State Park is a short drive away and offers excellent bass fishing and boating. History buffs can explore the various Civilian Conservation Corps structures throughout the park, including the charming stone cabins and pavilions that have stood since the 1930s.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is best suited for travelers with smaller RVs or camper vans due to the steep and narrow access road. It is a dream location for avid hikers and photographers who want easy access to sunrise and sunset vistas without leaving the campground. If you prefer a quiet, rustic environment over a busy commercial resort, Mount Nebo provides the perfect balance of natural seclusion and essential modern comforts.

We drove up from Conway for the Northern Lights because it was the closest place where we could see them according to Google. We were not disappointed! We could even see a little red with the naked eye, but it is always best to take photos. Also met a very nice lady from Texas; everyone was helping each other out to make sure no one fell in the dark. It is SO dark up there! The lights of town are pretty from up there too.

Always enjoy camping here, most especially the cabins! Cabin 4 has a gorgeous sunset view & it's next to the Gum Springs trail with seasonal waterfall.

First time camping and Mount Nebo did NOT disappoint! I was able to snag up tent site 17 for a stunning sunrise! Sunset point didn't disappoint either!😉 Bathrooms were clean and the grounds were great! I would definitely recommend booking during the week day of your looking for a little more private and quietness as the weekends are full! I booked Friday and Saturday but ended up leaving early Saturday morning. Highly recommend especially if your enjoy a good sunrise or sunset painting!🧡😉😎

The views here are breath taking , and panoramic. And u get a lot of everything as in the terrain of the trails . Rim trail was great . But there is a lot of glass broken on this trail . I guess from 100 years of using it up there . Idk . But as a hole will be back . Just no dog . It be rough on them .but other than that take in the view .it's truly amazing . And the visitor center is nice as all get out

This is a spectacular park after the treacherous steep turning drive up. 😬 The signs⚠️ that warn you about 24 ft maximum trailer and the road is steep and curvy. 🚧What the sign does not say, on the way up, is that it's an 18% grade on 180° switchbacks at 10mph!😬 I would not recommend anybody do what I did with a dual axle RV camper trailer over 5,000 lb🙅🏻♂️ I could not get up to my necessary RPM for the torque. But once you make it some of the most spectacular hiking and biking 🚴🏻♂️trails🥾 I've ever been on right! Very well maintained, well constructed,👷🏻♂️ and the best signage I've ever seen anywhere! 😱 There's some interesting history here too with the monument trails.
