Mountain Top Retreat Cabins & Campground
Overview
Mountain Top Retreat Cabins & Campground offers a peaceful escape in the heart of Kentucky’s cave country. This family-owned destination provides a quiet, wooded atmosphere that contrasts with the busier commercial strips found in the region. Whether you are arriving in a large motorhome or looking for a rustic cabin experience, the park focuses on a nature-first atmosphere where the sounds of the forest replace the noise of the highway. It is an authentic retreat for those seeking a slower pace during their travels.
Location & Surroundings
Situated on a high ridge in Cave City, the park provides scenic overlooks of the surrounding rolling hills. Its location is ideal for those wanting quick access to local attractions while maintaining a sense of seclusion. The terrain is hilly and heavily timbered, offering plenty of shade for RVers during the warm Kentucky summer months. It is positioned just a short drive from the main entrance of Mammoth Cave National Park, making it a strategic and scenic basecamp for explorers.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features spacious RV sites equipped with full hookups including both 30 and 50-amp electricity to accommodate modern rigs. Each site is designed to integrate with the natural landscape, featuring a picnic table and a fire ring for evening campfires under the stars. Guests have access to a central bathhouse and a laundry facility, which are essential conveniences for long-haul travelers. For families, the onsite playground and dedicated pet-friendly areas ensure that every member of the family has a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is undoubtedly Mammoth Cave National Park, where visitors can explore the world's longest known cave system via guided tours. Beyond the caves, the Cave City area is rich with family-friendly entertainment. You can visit Dinosaur World for a prehistoric walk or head to Kentucky Action Park for zip-lining and alpine slides. For those who enjoy the water, the nearby Green River offers opportunities for kayaking and canoeing through the lush Kentucky wilderness.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is an excellent choice for nature lovers and cave explorers who prefer a quieter, more traditional camping experience over a high-traffic resort. It is ideal for families looking to disconnect from screens and reconnect with the outdoors in a safe, wooded environment. Because of its elevated, ridge-top setting, it specifically appeals to RVers who prioritize shade and natural scenery, providing a restful home base after a long day of hiking or underground tours.

Absolutely beautiful experience! We were 6 people stayed here for 2 nights. Only a 15 min drive to the mammoth cave visitor center and a lot of other activities are nearly walking distance from here. But besides this, the owner Margaret is simply a wonderful person. I probably gave her too many calls for extra accommodations but she had us covered for everything we needed. We will be back. I have already recommended all my coworkers to stay here when they visit the park. Thank you again!!

Mountain Top is simply beautiful. The cabins are very comfortable and clean. Once you meet Margaret (Office Manager) she will try her very best to take care of your every need and concern. The price is great and the scenery and space is amazing. And my family love it here. I highly recommend Mountain Top if ever you're in the area.

Clean, comfortable cabin, excellent location, minutes away from mammoth cave visitor center and the interstate (easy access to restaurants, etc). Great view and a quiet area made for a excellent weekend trip.

This place is great! It’s quiet, pretty, clean, and new! Great water, electricity, and sewer. Pull thru sites, long and wide. Owners are very friendly and Love dogs and kids. We enjoyed the pizza place at the end of the driveway, our older kids enjoyed the haunted mansion also right down the hill. The best part is the amazing view! You can see everything from the top. Glad we found this place! We will always come here for mammoth cave trips.
