Murphy's Camping On the Ocean

Overview

Murphy's Camping On the Ocean provides a quintessential maritime experience for those traveling along Nova Scotia's rugged Eastern Shore. This family-operated destination focuses on scenic oceanfront views and a welcoming community atmosphere. Instead of the high-traffic commercial feel of some larger resorts, visitors here find a peaceful retreat that prioritizes the natural beauty of the Atlantic coastline and the warmth of traditional Nova Scotian hospitality.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the small community of Tangier, the park sits directly on the shores of a protected harbor. The surrounding area is defined by the 100 Wild Islands, one of the last remaining intact coastal archipelagos in North America. The landscape features granite outcroppings, clear turquoise waters, and lush spruce forests, making it a dream for photographers and those who appreciate a remote coastal environment while staying within reach of the Marine Drive scenic route.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility caters to various travelers with a mix of wooded and open sites, including specific areas for RVs. Key features include a communal campfire pit where guests often gather for evening stories and locally inspired treats like fresh mussels. Practical needs are met with a boat launch, clean washrooms, and laundry facilities. For those looking to explore the water, the park offers guided boat tours through the nearby islands, which is a standout feature for any maritime stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do within a short drive. Taylor Head Provincial Park is just minutes away, offering some of the best hiking trails and white sand beaches in the province. Sea kayaking is a primary draw here, as the calm inlets provide perfect conditions for paddling. Visitors can also explore local history at the nearby Memory Lane Heritage Village, which provides a fascinating glimpse into 1940s life in rural Nova Scotia.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature-focused RVers who prefer a slower pace and scenic beauty over modern luxury resorts. It is a fantastic choice for paddling enthusiasts and boaters who want direct access to the water. If you enjoy a communal social atmosphere and want to experience the authentic Eastern Shore lifestyle, this coastal campground offers the perfect balance of serene relaxation and outdoor adventure.

Kajia is super friendly, and we had some really nice and interesting chats about the area and camping in general. The place is very clean and well-maintained, the washrooms and showers are spotless. I loved the campground so much that I ended up adding another night to my stay. It’s peaceful, calm, and surrounded by amazing scenery!

I read through the reviews and was kind of dreading the bathrooms, but for the end of the season, this place was amazing. I think everyone has to remember that Nova Scotia is in the midst of a 50-year drought. Water was clean, facilities were clean and it was easy to check in. If you are doing plug in power, score 33 or 35 if you can get these sites. We also LOVED the dome. Very cool. A few more instructions on how the Anchor power worked would have been great.

We did the boat tour with Ryan and it was an amazing experience. Being a life long local as well as a member of the Murphy family, Ryan's knowledge and love for the area makes him the perfect guide. I highly recommend the campground for a stay and definitely take the boat tour. We will be coming back to share this gem with our kids and not soon enough

We loved MURPHY’s campground! From our arrival to our final day, Ryan and his staff were very helpful and informative. They knew just what we needed when we asked about brewery’s and grocery’s and even gave us two free coffees at a lovely market on our way to Dartmouth. The market had fresh produce and baked goods along with local fare. As an owner of a family business I can say this family cares a lot about their guests and their property. The natural beauty of the property is ever changing and the quiet atmosphere so relaxing. A real gem!
