Nolin River Lake - COE/Moutardier
Overview
Moutardier Campground, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is a premier destination located on the shores of Nolin River Lake in Leitchfield, Kentucky. This sprawling recreation area is celebrated for its deep, clear blue waters and the lush greenery that surrounds the shoreline. It offers a peaceful escape for travelers looking to reconnect with nature while enjoying the benefits of a well-maintained federal facility. The park provides a mix of standard electric sites and primitive spots, ensuring a range of experiences from modern RV camping to a more rustic retreat.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the rolling hills of South-Central Kentucky, the park is defined by the 5,795-acre lake that serves as its centerpiece. The surrounding landscape consists of dense hardwood forests that offer ample shade and a sense of privacy for visitors. Because it is located away from major metropolitan noise, the environment is incredibly quiet, dominated by the sounds of local wildlife and the gentle lapping of water. Its position makes it a strategic basecamp for those wanting to explore the unique karst topography and cave systems for which this region is world-renowned.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground is designed to accommodate a variety of camping styles with several key features to enhance your stay:
- Over 150 sites featuring electric hookups and water access.
- Clean facilities including hot showers, flush toilets, and a laundry room.
- An on-site boat ramp and proximity to a full-service marina for lake access.
For those traveling with larger rigs, there is a conveniently located dump station and easy-to-navigate paved pads. The park also includes a playground for children and campfire rings at each site, making it easy to enjoy traditional evening gatherings.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is the lake itself, which is a hotspot for fishing and water sports. Anglers frequently visit to catch walleye, crappie, and bass, while others enjoy kayaking or water skiing. Beyond the water, the park is only about 30 minutes away from Mammoth Cave National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site offering incredible underground tours. Hikers can also find adventure on the Brier Creek Trail system, which winds through the woods near the lake, offering scenic vistas and opportunities for wildlife photography.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal choice for families and boating enthusiasts who want a traditional lake vacation without the crowded resort feel. It is perfect for RVers who prioritize natural scenery and water access over high-end commercial amenities. Nature photographers and birders will find the quiet morning hours around the lake exceptionally rewarding. If you are looking for a tranquil basecamp to explore the wonders of the Kentucky cave country while having your boat docked nearby, Moutardier is a perfect fit for your travel style.

ACOE Moutadier Campground Bee Springs, KY Beautiful campground with well-maintained & clean roads, sites, & landscape. The sites all appeared to be mostly level. All sites, both RV & tent, were fully graveled with a properly sized bluestone gravel. Also, all sites had a view of the water - even if not right on the water. The lake was also very pretty. The camp is only 14 miles south of the interstate & is a very easy & pretty drive. The only negative at this park were the disgusting bathrooms. Both the toilet areas & showers were old, wet, moldy, dirty, smelled like urine, & had dead gnats all over the sinks. We stayed over a Sunday night, so I don't know if it was nasty because it was an unusually busy that Sept weekend (2 weekd after Labor Day) with a nasty crowd that stayed there that weekend; if they don't have them cleaned frequently enough; or if the people that clean them are incompetent - but I will say the contracted cleaning crew came in the Monday morning we were leaving & seemed to be working hard at trying to get the place clean as we were leaving. I didn't stay long enough to see the outcome, though. Also, when we went to throw out out garbage before leaving they had at least 5 huge dumpsters that had garbage spilling out if them that looked like hadn't been emptied since Labor Day.

Great campground. Very clean Thank you to the volunteers that keep the grounds well maintained. This campground fills up very fast. I would say the campsites are very close together if you're camping in D Loop and A Loop seem to be a little bit on top of each other, but the lake is right there walking accessible to Lake some sites are right on the lake. Most are beautiful Lake views Can't wait to go back!!

The restroom/showers were good and stocked daily. The campsites are clean and well maintained. Campsite D has great water view. Campsite C not so much but it secluded better.

Only reason for not wanting to give a full 5 stars was because we wished they had full sewer hook ups. Other than that, the facility was clean and beautiful and we loved our three night stay here in beautiful Kentucky!

Our site was A28. Tent camping. A large site right on the water. The view was amazing. We have 2 small dogs so we fenced off our site to allow them to roam freely. Swimming, fishing, trails and marina. The shower houses were nice and clean. The campground hosts were super nice. We can’t wait to go back.
