Norfork Lake - COE/Cranfield Park

Overview

Cranfield Park is a premier U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility situated on the scenic western shores of Norfork Lake. Known for its lush canopy of hardwoods and easy access to the water, this park offers a peaceful retreat for those looking to disconnect and enjoy the natural beauty of the Ozarks. It balances the rugged feel of a forest campground with the convenience of electric hookups and well-maintained facilities, making it a favorite for regional travelers looking for a serene lakefront experience.

Location & Surroundings

Located just north of Mountain Home, Arkansas, the park sits on a peninsula jutting into the crystal-clear waters of Norfork Lake. The geography is characterized by rolling hills and rocky shorelines typical of the Ozark Mountains region. Visitors are surrounded by dense forests that provide excellent shade and privacy for most campsites, while the proximity to the lake ensures cooling breezes and stunning sunset views over the water throughout the camping season.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features a variety of campsites, many of which provide 50-amp electrical service to accommodate modern RVs and trailers. While individual water hookups are available at select sites, the park provides central water access and a convenient on-site dump station for all guests. Families frequently utilize the designated swimming beach and the playground, while the dual-lane boat ramp provides direct access for those bringing their own watercraft. Clean restrooms and hot showers ensure a comfortable stay even in this rustic setting.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is Norfork Lake itself, which is famous for its world-class bass fishing and visibility that makes it a destination for scuba diving. A short drive away, the Norfork Tailwater and White River offer legendary trout fishing opportunities. For those looking to explore on land, the nearby city of Mountain Home provides local dining and supplies, while the David's Trail system offers miles of scenic hiking trails that wind through the surrounding forest and along the lake bluffs.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and families who prioritize natural scenery and water access over commercial resort amenities. If you enjoy waking up to the sound of nature and having the lake just steps from your camper, you will feel right at home here. It is a perfect fit for boaters, anglers, and RVers seeking a quiet, budget-friendly home base while exploring the incredible aquatic and forest wonders of north-central Arkansas.

Camp hosts were very nice and are the main reason I give it 5 stars. Not really what I was looking for but I enjoyed my stay. Quiet, clean facilities. Not easy to launch a kayak from camp but you can load and use the boat ramp. Dark skies are not possible from camp due to the marina lights. Prefect for RVs but not many trees if you are a hammock sleeper. Luckily I always travel with a small tent. I probably will not visit again but would recommend if you are looking for a lake view site with easy RV parking.

Cranfield has some of the best lake views and a good place to launch your boat. Sometimes hard to get a spot as good places can be crowded.

Excellent. The stay here was quiet and peaceful. The park ranger was polite and nice. Thank you. If we are in the area again we will definitely stay again.
