This was my first stay at a KOA, and I’m genuinely torn between rating this higher for the amenities and lower for the site assignment and service, so I’m settling on 3 stars. The good: Check-in was easy, even after hours. Our packet was waiting and it was simple to find our site. The bathrooms were excellent, especially compared to typical forest service campgrounds, and the dedicated dishwashing area was very handy. I loved being able to have ice and firewood delivered directly to our site, and the onsite general store was a big plus for convenience. The dog-walking area was well set up with bags provided, and most of the staff we interacted with were friendly and pleasant. The not-so-good: We were tent camping with one ground tent and one rooftop tent for a full week. I made our reservation about five months in advance, hoping that would improve our chances of getting a good site. However, sites are assigned at check-in, and because we arrived after hours, we ended up in one of the smallest tent sites (T34), which was 100% dirt. In contrast, many other tent sites were three to four times larger and mostly grass. After noticing that most tent sites turned over every day or two, we asked about switching. We were referred to a staff member who was noticeably rude and simply told us all other sites were taken which was confusing, given their assigned at check-in policy and the visible turnover. We also asked about moving to the area right next to us, which wasn’t marked as a regular site but was larger and also mostly dirt. We were told it was their “emergency overflow” and couldn’t be used for us. However, that overflow spot was filled by someone new every night of our stay, effectively being used as an extra rentable site rather than true overflow. Would I stay here again? Possibly, but only if I knew I could arrive early enough to have a realistic chance at one of the better tent sites. Based on my memory, I would avoid the smaller sites in the T32–T36 range, especially T34 and T35, which seemed to be the smallest. I would also avoid T1-T8 due to the volume of traffic in this part of the campground.

We had an amazing time at the Ouray KOA! The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. We felt highly supported and absolutely loved the Halloween activities throughout the weekend. We’re already making plans to come back. Thank you!

I stayed here for a solo trip with my dog (4 days)...by far the best service and experience I've had with any campground. Overall, the noise level was low, very clean showers/ bathrooms, and layout within the grounds. Great location as well (40 mins from Montrose & 15 mins outside of Ouray). Staff were super friendly and give great recommendations for local finds- Aaron is awesome. He'll go out of his way to make sure visitors are 100% satisfied. Could not have asked for a better experience- I'll be back

The staff went above and beyond to make your stay great. They delivered wood right to our cabin for us. One night we wanted a fire but were not going to be back in time before office closed. I called and they delivered the wood , fresh towels and more coffee pods. It was very clean and well maintained. We loved listening to the stream and our grandson loved the swing. Loved the updates and welcome notes they texted us each day. Highly recommend.
