Peace River Campground
Overview
Peace River Campground offers a rustic and adventurous escape in the heart of Florida’s cattle country. Located on the banks of the winding Peace River, this destination is famous for its fossil hunting and expansive wilderness areas. It balances standard RV convenience with a deep connection to the natural landscape, making it a favorite for those who prefer the shade of old-growth oaks over modern, paved resorts. The atmosphere here is centered on outdoor discovery and a relaxed, natural pace of life.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated just outside of Arcadia, a town known for its historic antique district and deep-rooted rodeo heritage. The surroundings are dominated by the Peace River, where cypress knees and Spanish moss create a quintessential Florida backdrop. Visitors can explore acres of wildlife-rich woods and riverfront trails, providing a sense of seclusion and tranquility away from the busy coastal tourist traps. This inland location offers a different perspective of the Sunshine State, characterized by prairies and riverine forests.
Amenities & Park Features
While the setting is wild, the campground provides essential comforts including full hookup sites with 30 and 50-amp service to accommodate most modern rigs. Guests have access to a large swimming pool, a playground for children, and multiple clean bathhouses. One of the standout features is the on-site boat launch, which allows easy entry for kayaks and canoes. The park also provides equipment rentals and convenient shuttle services for paddlers looking to drift downstream through the scenic Florida waterways without the hassle of a personal transport vehicle.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw here is the river itself, where visitors spend hours sifting for prehistoric fossils like megalodon teeth and ancient mammoth bones found in the riverbed. Beyond the water, the historic downtown of Arcadia is a short drive away, offering charming cafes and world-class antique shopping opportunities. For nature enthusiasts, the nearby Brownville Park and various local conservation areas provide additional opportunities for birdwatching and hiking through native scrub ecosystems that define the region's geography.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is ideal for outdoor adventurers and families who enjoy getting their hands dirty while exploring the great outdoors. It caters well to those seeking a rustic camping experience rather than a high-end luxury resort atmosphere. If you enjoy fossils, paddling, or simply relaxing under a thick canopy of trees with your RV, this park offers the perfect environment for a laid-back and memorable Florida getaway that feels worlds away from the city.

We had an unforgettable weekend camping with friends and family. Peace River is definitely one of those places you must visit if you enjoy camping. We chose to camp along the riverbank, on the sandy area, although they also offer RV camping. The campground has hot showers, restrooms, and a small store where you can grab last-minute essentials like firewood, bug repellent, and more. The staff was incredibly friendly. We made our reservation through their website and simply checked in upon arrival. The weather that weekend was perfect—cool at night, which was great for sleeping in tents, and sunny during the day. As always, the river water was refreshingly cold. Everyone around us was super friendly, and the kids had a blast! It was a great opportunity to disconnect from technology and enjoy nature. We've camped here several times before and always had a great experience. One important note: if you plan to camp by the river, make sure to arrive in a 4x4 vehicle, as regular cars may get stuck in the sand. Hope this helps!

I have been coming here with family for around 5 years straight. This year was probably the worst camping trip ive ever been on. There was no one enforcing noise ordinance, had people holding the horn on their truck for about 10-15 mins straight. Try to call the office to get someone to deal with it and got no help. This is the last year i will ever camp here. The horn was worst of it but just beginning with the music and screaming alll night long. In addition to trucks redlining all night long.

Lot 59 was great, near shower and laundry area. We just stayed overnight, however if traveling nearby again I would come back and stay longer maybe next time. I done a couple loads of laundry there, equipment worked fine. I liked that the showers were handicap accessible, good handrails.

If you're looking for a fantastic camping spot with family and friends, this place is just perfect! There are plenty of spaces for RVs, and you'll find lots of bathrooms and showers, which is super convenient. Plus, they've got a laundry room where you can freshen up your muddy clothes before heading home. And it gets better—there’s a Dollar General right by the main entrance, so you can easily grab any essentials! We've been here a few times with our side-by-sides, and we can't wait to come back again!
