Overview

Peaks-Kenny State Park offers a serene escape into the heart of Maine's Highlands region. Situated on the shores of the crystal-clear Sebec Lake, this state park is known for its lush, wooded landscape and massive granite boulders. It provides a peaceful environment where RV travelers can disconnect from the noise of daily life and immerse themselves in a classic Maine woods experience. The park is well-maintained and provides a quiet, family-oriented atmosphere that highlights the natural beauty of the Piscataquis County area.

Location & Surroundings

Located just outside the town of Dover-Foxcroft, ME, the park is nestled in a region where rolling hills meet deep forests. The primary draw is its extensive shoreline along Sebec Lake, which spans over 6,000 acres and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The drive into the park takes you through charming rural landscapes, and the camping area itself is heavily forested, providing natural shade and a sense of privacy for each site. The environment is rich with local wildlife, making it a prime spot for birdwatching and photography.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features 56 camping sites that accommodate both tents and RVs. While the park maintains a rustic vibe, it offers essential conveniences including a well-maintained dump station and clean bathhouses equipped with hot showers. Visitors can enjoy a spacious day-use area that includes a large sandy beach with lifeguard supervision during the summer months. For those traveling with children, there is a playground and several picnic areas with charcoal grills, ensuring a comfortable stay for those who enjoy traditional outdoor living.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary focus at Peaks-Kenny. Boating and fishing on Sebec Lake are popular, with a convenient boat launch located within the park for those bringing their own watercraft. Hikers can explore over 10 miles of trails, including the Brown’s Point Trail, which winds through old-growth forests and along the lakeshore. For those willing to venture a bit further, the nearby Borestone Mountain Audubon Sanctuary offers a challenging hike with panoramic views of the Maine wilderness, while the town of Dover-Foxcroft provides local shops and dining options.

Who This Park Is Best For

Peaks-Kenny State Park is ideal for RVers who prefer tranquility and nature over high-speed internet and resort amenities. This beach is the BEST! there is a small fee at the gate, plenty of parking, although my family and I went during the week, not on a weekend so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. There are changing rooms at the beach, and lots of them. 10+ and they have flushing toilets, running water and lights! There are also little trails in the woods along the shoreline on each side of the beach where there are picnic tables, small grills and some have access right to the water. The beach itself is HUGE, plenty of room for everyone and not too crowded. There is also a small playground and swings.

All time favorite campground! We try to go at least two times yearly. The campsites are clean and spacious. The facilities are clean, and there are plenty of them. The water at the beach is very nice and not slimy walking in. You also can rent boats and kayaks for the day. There are many hiking trails, with the cool addition of searching for unique picnic tables.

Peaceful and beautiful. If you live near here it should be your go-to place for swimming and relaxing. If you dont live near then it is a great place to travel and camp. Veterans get in free. There is boating nearby at Greeleys Landing and in town there is the famous Bears Den restaurant with cabin motel rooms.

Beautiful place to camp and to enjoy the fresh air! Clean sites and fresh potable water. Bathrooms are pristine. The little rock formations are beautiful here, I enjoyed the creativity of the picnic tables next to the stones. Gorgeous view of the lake viewing Borestone mountain. Nice clear water and clean beaches, and it also has a fun playground for kids! Very friendly and helpful park rangers here. Will help you out whatever they can. Can't wait to come back next year!

Over all, a very nice campground. We stayed for a week in August of '23. There's a nice beach/swimming/playground/picnic area with ample parking for day use only. There are decent bathrooms/showers with hot water. There are lots of hiking trails all around the park. My only complaint was how rough the dirt roads were within the park. The numerous potholes did a number on my old pickup truck's suspension!
